Résumé:
The city is where Italian radical architecture represented and experimented its theories. While the early projects remained theoretical proposals, some contributions by Archizoom, Superstudio, or Strum established an ambiguous relationship with design that became crucial after the international exhibition "Italy: the new domestic landscape", curated by Emilio Ambasz at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1972. With the exception of Zziggurat, all participants, such as UFO, Gianni Pettena, Ugo La Pietra and 9999, chose the "piazza" - the public space - for their theoretical and practical experimentation as the adequate venue for installations and performances that used the same language as that of artists.

Résumé:
"Taste is the lack of appetite" is an exhibition on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of GRAFT and celebrates the curiosity for the special, the unique, and the unexpected. The internationally active architecture firm is known not only for individual forms and design, but also for its social engagement. For the team, the design practice is defined by optimism and a pleasure in experimentation – leading to the realisation of hybrid solutions for a wide range of challenges. The exhibition features a selection of residential, mixed-use and cultural buildings, each of which reflects the firm’s exemplary design strategies. In line with its multifaceted work, the show also sheds light on the topic of Architecture Activism and presents the original prototype of the community-building Solarkiosk.

Résumé:
Balancing environmental, social, economic, and aesthetic concerns, sustainable design has the potential to transform everyday life and is already reshaping the fields of architecture and product design. "Beyond green : toward a sustainable art" explores the influence of this design philosophy on an emerging generation of international artists who combine a fresh aesthetic sensibility with a constructively critical approach to the production, dissemination, and display of art. This catalogue's exhibition includes existing works, commissions, and previously presented work that has been “recycled,” spotlighting ways in which artists are building paths to new forms of practice. The exhibition is curated by Stephanie Smith, curator at the Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago, and is co-organized by iCI and the Smart Museum. It is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with artist interviews, and essays by Smith and by design historian Victor Margolin.

Résumé:
Swiss artist, architect, designer, typographer, and theorist Max Bill (1908–94) was one of the most important exponents of concrete and constructive art and a key figure in European applied arts and design history. Educated by such prominent teachers as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandisky, and Walter Gropius at the Bauhaus, at the start of his career in the 1930s. In the 1950s he teamed up with Inge Scholl and Otl Aicher to found the legendary Ulm College of Design in Ulm, Germany, of which he became the first director. In his work, Max Bill carried on the legacy of the Bauhaus, both as an artist and a teacher, and made a decisive and lasting contribution to twentieth-century cultural life. Max Bill accompanies an exhibition at the Museum MARTa Herford in Herford, Germany, held to mark the centenary of this exceptional artist. The exhibition displays Bill’s wide-ranging work, and it also sets him in the context of his cultural milieu by featuring works by his contemporaries, such as Kurt Schwitters, Wassily Kandinsky, and Donald Judd. Accompanying essays investigate Bill’s influence on other artists and the lasting importance of his oeuvre in the present.

Résumé:
Both architecture and art fans will covet the first comprehensive monograph on the work of Zurich-based Holzer Kobler Architekturen, global leaders in exhibition design that is almost cinematic in impact. This extensive, large-format, all-color book features projects that brilliantly balance the disciplines of exhibition design, interior design and architecture with playful, provocative and memorable solutions. The 25 projects documented here range from Arteplage Yverdon and the permanent exhibitions for the Swiss National Museum to new construction and conversions of industrial properties for other uses. Principals Barbara Holzer and Tristan Kobler participate in a wide-ranging interview moderated by Martin Heller and Christoph Burkle; the book also includes essays by Angelika Fitz and Stefan Truby, and renderings, schematics, floor plans, models, site maps and a fantastic color poster folded around the outside cover.
