The title is open to interpretation but it’s clear that the subject of the future of architecture is intoxicating. The field is full of tensions-between regionalism and globalism, virtuality and reality, functionality and aestheticism. "Architecture rausch" opens discussion on architectural training in this volatile time, and who better to articulate those challenges (as well as to challenge the limits of the profession) than the students who will face them in the 21st century? The book presents works by students from a studio at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany’s largest science and engineering school. Among the editors are faculty members whose work includes the Gallery for Contemporary Art Leipzig and projects with Daniel Libeskind.

Résumé:
OASE 66 investigates the expression and use of architecture in science fiction and specifically in cyberpunk (cyberfiction). Science fiction, originally a literary and later a film genre, explores the relation between scientific and technological developments and their possible social-cultural influences and effects. Understanding science fiction as the twentieth-century venue for imaginative extrapolations of possible futures, and cyberpunk as a subcategory of science fiction dealing specifically with the information age, they both seem to offer an interesting arena in which to compare various articulations of the future architectural environment. With contributions by Lara Schrijver, Pnina Avidar, Gül Kaçmaz Erk, M. Cristine Boyer, Neil Spiller and Sidney Eve Matrix. Design by Karel Martens & Chantal Hendriksen; Werkplaats Typografie.

Résumé:
"If...Then : Architectural Speculation" is the sixth in an annual series of publications featuring work by talented architects selected by The Architectural League of New York's Young Architects Competition jury. This year, entrants were asked to explore the process of architectural speculation: the act of imagination that precedes every work, projecting future events in a space that does not yet exist. The winners of the competition - Fernando Romero; Tobias Lundquist; Anthony Piermarini and Hansy L. Better Barraza; Keith Mitnick, Mireille Roddier, and Stewart Hicks; Tom Wiscombe; and Gail Peter Borden - take on this challenge and creatively address the social and political assumptions surrounding architectural production through a rethinking of site, program, form, technology, and materials.

Résumé:
The use of natural raw materials is today more significant in architecture than ever before. While timber construction is already firmly established in the field of architecture, there is an increasing focus on alternative construction materials such as clay, straw, cork or bamboo, along with their application features. In full alignment with sustainable construction, they make it possible to plan energy-optimised, recyclable and climate-friendly buildings for the future. The book shows how this can be achieved based on 30 projects of all sizes. The buildings present the entire spectrum of natural materials. They show numerous construction and application methods of the different building materials. This book manifests what is possible using natural construction materials in great detail.

Résumé:
Building measures in existing buildings is of crucial importance for the path to a climate-neutral future. Nevertheless, continuing to build not only requires planners to take great care in planning, but also to be patient and imaginative when dealing with unforeseeable problems. This book chronicles outstanding quality of living conditions that can be created through alterations and conversions, refurbishments, renovations and modernisations carried out on existing buildings. It shows 26 exciting best practice projects from the years 2017 to 2023 – from a converted church in London to a multi-storey car park extension in Cologne. Detailed drawings at a 1:20 scale provide a precise picture of each of the construction solutions along with floor plans and sections.

Résumé:
This book shows how architectural design can improve housing. It looks at 14 innovative multiunit dwelling projects through the lenses of current research on urban housing systems, driven by questions on social, environmental, and economic sustainability. Residential buildings designed for diverse cultural contexts are brought together and examined according to spatial antonyms: the individual and communal, the interior and exterior, and the determined and undetermined, to create a resource for future architectural practice. The book concentrates on design decisions and incorporates rich illustrations and conversations with architects and residents. It follows a series of talks curated by the Melbourne School of Design to extend the debate on the missing links between architectural practice and housing research.

Résumé:
Tokyo is one of the largest and most complex cities in the world and represents an intriguing proving ground for new ideas on architecture and urbanism. Working in Tokyo means working in the future, and often two sets of rules seem to apply to projects in Tokyo - on the one hand the city's growth is as protean as that of LA or Mexico City, yet this growth is channeled by Japan's rigid adherence to norms and rules and Japanese architecture's embrace of the theoretical and new. This book presents Tokyo as seen through its growth and design from the 19th century onward with a special focus on highlighting the deep roots of contemporary trends in Tokyo architecture.
