Saat Rasta
AP182.S1.2012.D2
Description:
File documents an executed project for a live-work complex in Mumbai, India, that reuses the structure of an existing fire-damaged warehouse. The name of the project, Saat Rasta, translates literally to Seven Roads, a reference to a nearby roundabout. The site is immediately adjacent to the Central railroad as well as an informal housing settlement, qualities which made the location undesirable for developers. To adhere to zoning regulations, the design recoups the warehouse's original basalt stone perimeter wall. Brick infill delineates the units, while new wood-frame and cement-panel walls shape interior spaces. Each unit contains one or two courtyards, the roofs of which tilt inward to capture rain and avoid draining water on the surrounding housing. The courtyards also allow for the growth of local vegetation, especially Goolar figs, which had overgrown on the site before its redevelopment. File contains photographs, drawings, and a model.

Description:
This project series documents the Monumento ao poeta António Nobre in Leça de Palmeira, Portugal. While the records were held in the office’s archives this project was assigned the number 27/60; in the past the office identified the project as number 117. The office assigned the date 1967 to this project. The project consisted of a sculpture located near the Boa Nova Tea house. The monument was a collaboration between Álvaro Siza and sculptor Barata Feyo. The bronze sculpture included feminine figures and poet António Nobre. It is important to note that another monument for António Nobre was built by Siza in 1980 (see project series AP178.S1.1980.PR04 in this fonds). Documenting this project are sketches, studies, topographic surveys, plans, drawings of lettering and details. Photographs, negatives, and slides document the site, model, inauguration and sculpture. Textual documentation includes a building program, notes and correspondence with the city of Matosinhos.

Description:
This project series documents a competition entry for an office block and residences called Electra Complex in Meerut, India around 1983. The competition entry proposed a mid-rise office block with decks wrapping the building's exterior, which would connect via ramp to the neighbouring residential block. Both building types would feature shops, walkways and parking at their ground level. The proposal also included the design of a children's park next to the residential complex. This project is recorded through drawings, including a large number of reprographic copies, textual records and a photograph and negatives dating from around 1983. The drawings consist of plans, elevations, sections and perspectives, while the textual records consist of the project proposal report with the accompanying photo and drawings. The negatives are of the architects with presentation materials and reproduced drawings. It does not appear that this project was ever built.

Description:
This project series documents the "Rumble" Sofa, a couch designed by Pettena in 1967 and produced in 1968 by Gufram, an Italian seat and furniture manufacturer based in Barolo. The "Rumble" Sofa was part of the furniture at Pettena's studio-home." […] The design of this couch […] derives from the experience of living in a spacious place, originally a 19th century studio for artists, in which the furnishings had to suit the scale of the place and not that of the being." [1] The project series contains sketches, plans and details of the couch, as well as videos and photographs of the couch showing its various possible shapes and usages. It also includes a small wooden model with movable blocks, each block represents one of the cushions of the couch. Red Line (1972)
AP207.S1.1972.PR04
Description:
The project series documents "Red Line", a performance that consisted in tracing a red line in the middle of the road with paint sprayer and compressor loaded on the back of a truck. The red line stretched across forty-five kilometres of road and traced the limits of the municipality of Salt Lake City. "The red line rendered visible the boundaries that structure our mental fields of perception and modify our understanding of space." [1] The performance was carried out in February and March 1972 with a group of students from the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City. The project series contains photographs of Pettena and his team at work tracing the red line, a drawing, and a map of the Salt Lake City municipality showing the trajectory of the line. Description:
The project series documents "Integrazioni" an installation by Pettena for the Expo Arte at the Galleria Megapoli in Bari in 1985. The installation consisted of a framed three dimensional 'picture' in which is placed two benches and a table, and perspective is added in with paint to give the impression of depth. "A picture that, for once, has a depth (so that you can enter it) is in fact a place, the place where names change, the place where natures change, the location of a shift between real and imaginary, a door opening onto a reality that is certainly imagined, but that you can pass through." Description:
The project series documents Pettena's research and study for the restoration and conversion of the Tonnara dell’Enfola, the promontory of the Enfola in Portoferraio, Italy. The project, on which Pettena worked from 1995 to 2000, was commissioned by the Parco Nazionale of the Arcipelago Toscano. The project included the restoration and conversion of the 18th century former tuna factory building into a museum and a theme park. The project was not realized as the general plan for the project is yet to be defined. The project series contains a complete set of plans for Pettena's proposal, including site plans, elevations, sections and floor plans, and a report on the project. The project series also includes contracts, cost estimates, project descriptions, handwritten notes (possibly by Pettena), correspondence and a list of work for the project. It also contains research material such as reference photographs and a set of reference plans for the building.
