Résumé:
Anna Andreeva (1917–2008) was a Soviet textile designer and leading artist at the famous Red Rose Silk Factory in Moscow from 1944 to 1984. The former Giraud silk factory, nationalized in 1919 after the October Revolution and renamed to commemorate the murdered Polish-German socialist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, became a site of collective female design labor that shaped the fashion and material culture of late socialism. Andreeva’s spectacular patterns range from abstract and geometric to cosmic and space-age and to pictorial themes of the city of Moscow and Russian folk art. Her mass-produced designs were among the most popular textile prints distributed within the USSR in the 1960s and 1970s.

Résumé:
"Archiving machines" advances our understanding of memory, information, and data by charting the struggle between the computing technologies that archive data and the cultures of information that have led to platforms that assert control over its use. Amelia Acker examines the origins of data archives and the computing processes of storage, exchange, and transmission. Each chapter introduces data archiving processes that relate to the evolution of data sovereignty we experience today: from magnetic tape and timesharing computer models from the 1950s, to the establishment of data banks and the rise of database processing and managed data silos in the 1970s, to file structures and virtual containers in cloud-based information services over the past 40 years.

Résumé:
''Francesca Woodman: The artist’s books'' collects for the first time every page of all eight of Francesca Woodman’s unique artist’s books in one comprehensive volume, including two newly discovered books which have never been seen before, alongside better-known titles such as ''Some Disordered Interior Geometries''. The basis of these works is in tattered nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century journals and notebooks that Woodman collected from bookshops and flea markets in Rome in the late 1970s. She later transformed these found volumes, attaching her prints, transparencies, and written annotations to their evocative pages. These books demonstrate a sophisticated relationship to narrative and sequence and offer a new understanding of the scope of Woodman’s engagement with the book form.

Résumé:
In this new volume of the CCA Singles presenting the Meanwhile in Japan conversations, Toyo Ito sat with a group of young architects and academics to discuss how his early work of the 1970s and 1980s took a radical approach to intervening in a newly emerged consumerist culture in Tokyo. As architects elsewhere in the world sought to break through the conventions of modernism, Ito attempted to bring new significance to architecture in a rapidly transforming city, with particular attention to the lives of women in urban society. Led by Koji Ichikawa, the conversation included Mikio Wakabayashi, Kozo Kadowaki, Yutaro Muraji, Leo Tanishige, Mariko Terada, Naohiko Hino, Erika Nakagawa, and Tomoharu Makabe.

Résumé:
Thirty years ago, the Vienna artist and architect Heinz Frank published a book entitled "Children's book for architects," a selection of his drawings from the 1970s, in which animals and ghostly creatures "haunt" buildings of various kinds. Frank's works on paper collected here once again shake at the rational foundations of architecture. With humor and imagination, the artist draws on the anarchic potential of animals and of children's drawings. "Children's books like this one," writes US-American architecture critic Felicity D. Scott in her contribution to this book, "prompt us to rethink the world, even to see it differently." Eight color-in sheets, included with the book, invite us to "enter into Frank's animal form of refusing architecture."

Résumé:
This book features highlights from four decades of James Welling’s oeuvre. Emerging out of the "Picture Generation" - a group of artists focused on a critique of photographic media - James Welling has gone on to experiment successfully in nearly every photographic genre. This monograph, designed by Joseph Logan in close collaboration with the artist, presents a selection of works from the early 1970s to today, demonstrating the artist’s conceptual foundations. Welling’s series are dialogues between image and matter, process and result, representation and abstraction. The illustrations are accompanied by an interview with the artist and critical essays that discuss Welling’s work in connection with American painting, post-modernism, and authorship, and the artist’s emotional photographic language.

Résumé:
'The Culture of Feedback' digs deep into a dazzling variety of left-of-center experiences and attitudes, and brings a new look at the wild side of the 1970s. The author shows us how ideas from systems theory were taken up by the counterculture and the environmental movement, eventually influencing a wide range of beliefs and behaviors, particularly related to the question of what is and is not intelligence. He tells the story of a generation of Americans who were struck by a newfound interest in — and respect for — plants, animals, indigenous populations, and the very sounds around them, threading his tapestry with cogent insights on environmentalism, feminism, systems theory, and psychedelics.

Résumé:
The period between the 1950s and the 1970s saw the flourishing of a number of radical movements in architecture throughout Europe, producing a wide range of experimental expression. 'Cloud ’68' presents a selection of 173 graphic pieces—including lithographs, drawings, original etchings, and ephemera—that together give a sense of the diverse approaches that thrived in those years. Drawing from the personal collection of the Chilean architect Smiljan Radic, the book features works by Constant, Guy Debord, Asger Jorn, Haus-Rucker-Co, Archigram, Utopie, Superstudio, and many others. Apart from essays by Tom McDonough and Lara Schrijver Cloud ’68 contains interview fragments by the critic and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, who talked to the key figures of these movements.
