Résumé:
Despite growing calls for global architectural histories, the historiography of modern architecture remains depicted predominantly by Western figures, narratives, and experiences. This publication takes a different approach by uncovering previously overlooked histories and contributions that shaped the Arab world’s modern built environment. It considers projects from the Arabian Gulf, the Levant, and North Africa during a critical moment when several Arab countries were entering a new phases of post-colonial nation-building. From both within and outside the architectural profession, a multifaceted exchange of ideas informed architectural thinking in the wake of independence.

Résumé:
The second volume in an anthology on Tsuyoshi Tane’s evolving architectural practice. Featuring seventeen recent projects, including major commissions currently underway, such as the New Main Building of the Imperial Hotel Tokyo and the Sensoji Temple Treasure Museum, it highlights his ongoing investigation into “archaeological thinking”, a design approach rooted in uncovering memory, place, and the deep layers of history that shape the built environment. Each project thus emerges from extensive research: archival, material, cultural, spatial. Through sketches, studies, and project narratives, it reveals how ideas are patiently excavated and woven into architectural forms.

Michel Campeau lives and works in Montreal.

Résumé:
This book describes a series of different visual and mental models by which the urban environment has been recognized, depicted, and planned. Boyer identifies three major ''maps'': one common to the traditional city -- the city as a work of art; one characteristic of the modern city -- the city as panorama; and one appropriate to the contemporary city -- the city as spectacle. It is a richly illustrated and documented study that pays considerable attention to the normally hidden and unspoken codes that regulate the order imposed on and derived from the city.

Résumé:
''Earth'' will focus on our relationship with the natural world, during a moment of continued debate about global warming and extreme weather, and as the vulnerability of our natural environment is underscored each day. As we enter the anthropocene, the term used by scientists to describe an age when human activity has the greatest impact on the earth, what is the role of the artist and culture in addressing this crisis? How do photographers honor and draw inspiration from the natural world? How do aesthetics shape our understanding of ecological concerns?
