Résumé:
The history of climate change and the history of architecture are connected in many ways. Through a multilayered chronology, "It’s About Time" showcases historical and contemporary building projects such as solar houses, autonomous structures and earth buildings, alongside more than 45 key moments in environmental justice history: among them the first Earth Day, the United Nations conference in Stockholm, the Chernobyl disaster, the Paris Climate Agreements and the European Green Deal. It explores architectural experimentation in the past, depicts the present moment of transition and offers hopeful glimpses of the future. Serving as both a reference and a source of inspiration, this publication is intended for architects, educators, students, scientists or anyone looking to play their part in shaping a more sustainable world. It emphasizes that while the time for change has now arrived, the field of architecture can play a key role in the transitions ahead.

Archivio opens its third editorial cycle: four thematic issues, each curated by a Guest Editor with deep expertise, offering access to worlds where past, present, and future converge. The third issue, Archivio N°11, focuses on technology and is curated by Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino, together with Cecilia Botta, technology historian and Head of Memories at Promemoria Group, the magazine's publisher. Daniela Hamaui oversees editorial direction, while Alessandro Gori shapes the art direction. The cover, designed by artist Ailadi, pays tribute to the early aesthetics of the digital age. Created using PETSCII, the character set of Commodore 8-bit computers, it evokes the visual language of technology in its formative years. Archivio N°11 maps the international landscape of technology archives, tracing the roots of the digital revolution and exploring the places where our technological past is preserved, along with the collectors and institutions that recognized its cultural value.

There are no perfect public spaces. Public space is constantly changing, shifting, never quite fixed. It is formed by laws, by regulations, by private ownership, and by city management. Public spaces are influenced both by the people who oversee them and by those who use them. And because of these facts, public spaces are never neutral. In "ublic Spaces, NY," Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample document and analyze Manhattan’s parks, streets, community gardens, privately owned public spaces, recreation areas, waterfronts, and cemeteries. Their book seeks to understand their design, construction and management, and provides detailed drawings of both the spaces themselves and speculative illustrations about how the public uses the spaces. By examining how public spaces facilitate or hinder inclusion, and by detailing the conflicts and negotiations they provoke, this book creates a discourse to reimagine the future of public life in the United States’ densest city.

After the apocalypse destroys most life on Earth, a woman makes artificial bird voiceboxes to try and keep birdsong alive. A young female vampire uses her knowledge of mirrors to save her village from the creature who turned her. A woman haunted by her past feels that the robins she has always loved are no longer her friends. These fourteen stories, largely speculative in nature, consider what happens when the world is no longer as it used to be—whether it be the postapocalyptic future, the paleolithic past, or the dark north of the present. A. J. Ashworth’s second collection features "Leather" from Best British Short Stories and explores themes of love and loss, family and foe, as well as moments of disconnection and connection with those closest to us. All are interested in what it means to be alive in very difficult times.

Résumé:
In this handbook, Caroline Voet unravels the design principles of Dutch Benedictine monk and architect Dom Hans van der Laan (1904–1991). His ideas about spatial experience and proportions – in particular his unique discovery of the series of plastic numbers and the measurement system derived from it – have had a major influence and are still very much alive today. Step by step, Voet redraws Van der Laan's philosophy of architectural space and links it to his proportional system of the plastic number in a series of clear, carefully constructed analyses. The principles of his elementary architecture – further developed by the Bossche School – are examined on the basis of completed projects, from monasteries to residential houses. With this book, Voet offers universal tools for reading the built environment and linking it to a layered human scale. They are powerful instruments for the complex design challenges of the future.

Résumé:
''Common Treasures'' is a new series of books about the challenges faced by rural communities, written by people who are working on the ground and in the fields. Each volume gathers the very best essays about climate adaptation, food production and land use, and presents them as alternatives to the prevailing political discourse. Ambitious thinking about the future of rural places requires connecting traditionally separate disciplines: architecture with agriculture; planning law with land workers’ livelihoods; food systems with local economies; community resilience with land ownership; and housing development with regenerative land use. From essays considering the reintroduction of British wool and flax, more sustainable ways to produce food, to the issues caused by second home ownership and the setting up of community land trusts, these books are a practical and inspirational blueprint created by those whose lives and work is engaged with the countryside every day.

Hélène Cixous’s powerful new book, masterfully translated by Peggy Kamuf, is a vivid journey through fire. From the ashes of wars, wildfires, and upheaval, Cixous traces a dramatic path across time—from the Second World War and the Nazi occupation of Oran to the European wildfires of 2022—weaving a rich, intimate narrative that merges history, autobiography, and myth. With her piercing, lyrical voice, Cixous confronts the human cost of destruction and upheaval, and asks a universal question: What do we carry with us when everything we know is falling to ashes? In ''Incinarration'' Cixous finds hope in the power of words, memory, and imagination to illuminate our darkest moments and redeem the future. As forests burn and regimes collapse, Cixous shows us how stories become a form of resistance—a way to remember, to bear testimony, and to find renewal in the face of oblivion.

Résumé:
Art museums have emerged in recent decades as the most vibrant and popular of all cultural institutions. Though art museums have never been more popular, their direction and values are now being contested as never before, both in the media and in the art world itself. This engaging thematic history of the art museum from its inception in the eighteenth century to the present offers an essential framework for understanding contemporary debates as they have evolved in Europe and the United States. From the visionary museums of Boullée in the eighteenth century to the new Guggenheim in Bilbao and beyond, it explores key aspects of museum theory and practice: ideals and mission; architecture; collecting, classification, and display; the public; commercialism; and restitution and repatriation. The only single volume to give a comprehensive account of the issues critical to museums, the book also highlights the challenges they will face in the future.

It goes beyond the basic components of form, colour and material to identify and explore seven atmospheric layers that not only exist simultaneously but owing to their fleeting nature can easily merge to form new combinations, over and over again: Almost Alive, Fields of Colour, Drawing the Line, In the Mix, Form Follows Fold, Handicraft 2.0, Down to Earth. Atmosphere is a seven-part exploration of the themes that spark creative work. It delves into a renewed interest in handicrafts, into creases and crinkles as generators of form, into nature as an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Learn how designers deal with the chill perfection of CAD and how they counter a period of baroque extravagance. Each chapter is lavishly illustrated with recent work by top designers, architects and artists. Atmosphere will pump oxygen into future projects including yours.
