Résumé:
Eggleston’s vivid photographs transform the ordinary into distinctive, poetic images that eschew fixed meaning. One of the foremost practitioners in the medium’s history, Eggleston is widely considered the father of color photography. He pioneered the use of dye-transfer printing for art photography in the 1970s. The technically advanced process—first developed by Kodak in the 1940s—allowed him to achieve the richness of tonal depth and color saturation that he had been searching for. In the early 1990s, Kodak stopped producing the dyes, paper, and film used in the process. With the necessary materials now discontinued, and the bulk of what remained being used for this exhibition, "The last dyes" marks the final presentation of new works completed in this medium.

Résumé:
"Zerox machine" is an immersive journey through the vibrant history of British punk and its associated fanzines from 1976 to 1988. Drawing on an extensive range of previously unpublished materials sourced from private collections across the United Kingdom, Matthew Worley describes and analyzes this transformative era, providing an intimate glimpse into the hopes and anxieties that shaped a generation. Far more than a showcase of covers, Zerox Machine examines the fanzines themselves, offering a rich tapestry of firsthand accounts, personal stories, and subcultural reflections. With meticulous research and insightful analysis, this book captures the spirit and essence of British youth culture, shedding new light on a pivotal movement in music history and offering a unique alternative history of Britain in the 1970s and ’80s.

Résumé:
This book brings together portraits of children from the series Siblings and Singles, Clara Gutsche’s most recent body of photographic work, produced over the last fifteen years. In these images, Gutsche explores the themes of childhood and intergenerational relations and continues her reflection on the photographic medium, time, and representation. This book illuminates her engagement with the photographed subject through a practice that has spanned five decades since the 1970s, and has left its mark on the imagination and history of Canadian photography. The thirty-two silver prints from the series "Milton-Parc" (1970-73), "The Cencic Sisters (1974-76), "Sarah" (1982-89) and "Jeanne-Mance Park" (1982-84) reproduced here belong to the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Résumé:
Greg Girard’s photographs of Vancouver from the 1970s and early 1980s show us the city’s final days as a port town at the end of the railway line. Soon after Vancouver began to be noticed by the wider world (Expo 86 is generally agreed on as the pivotal moment), the city began refashioning itself as an urban resort on nature’s doorstep and attracting attention as a destination for real estate investment. At that time, many of Vancouver’s downtown and east side streets ended at the waterfront, an area filled with commercial fishing docks, cargo terminals, and bars and cafes for waterfront workers and sailors. Wandering these streets, living in cheap hotels, Girard photographed the workaday (and night) world of the city where he grew up.

Résumé:
The Curious Mr. Pettena recounts various steps along a journey, through cities and wide open natural spaces, undertaken by the anarchitect Gianni Pettena at the start of the 1970s across the United States. Architect, artist and critic, professor of the History of Contemporary Architecture at the University of Florence and of Planning at California State University, Gianni Pettena (born 1970 in Bolzano) belongs to the original group—along with Archizoom, Superstudio and UFO—of radical Italian architecture. Without denying his background in architecture, he was convinced of the need to rethink the meaning of the discipline, just like the other “radicals”, using the languages of “spatial” research of Conceptual Art and American Land Art, instead of the traditional languages of architectural planning.

Résumé:
Skateboarders are an increasingly common feature of the urban environment - recent estimates total 40 million world-wide. We are all aware of their often extraordinary talent and manoeuvres on the city streets. This book is the first detailed study of the urban phenomenon of skateboarding. It looks at skateboarding history from the surf-beaches of California in the 1950s, through the purpose-built skateparks of the 1970s, to the street-skating of the present day and shows how skateboarders experience and understand the city through their sport. Dismissive of authority and convention, skateboarders suggest that the city is not just a place for working and shopping but a true pleasure-ground, a place where the human body, emotions and energy can be expressed to the full.

Résumé:
A new edition of Susan Sontag’s groundbreaking critique of photography—its problems, politics, and possibilities. “To photograph is to appropriate the thing photographed,” Sontag writes in the opening pages of ''On Photography'', which went on to influence generations of theorists, film critics, and readers everywhere. Originally published in the 1970s, her groundbreaking collection remains uncannily prescient and profoundly precise. With her singular searching eye, and her refusal to buckle under received wisdom, she presents a rousing critique of the functions of imagery—to seduce, to advertise, to evoke, to commemorate, to conspire, to conceal—across six essays. The result is a damning portrait of the ways we use imagery to manufacture reality and authority that feels as if it were written today.

Résumé:
The book examines the people, places, and policies that have helped make New York livable, from early experiments by housing reformers and the innovative public-private solutions of the 1970s and 1980s to today’s professionalized affordable housing industry. More than two dozen leading scholars tell the story of key figures of the era, including Fiorello LaGuardia, Robert Moses, Jane Jacobs, and Ed Koch. Over twenty-five individual housing complexes are profiled, including Queensbridge Houses, America’s largest public housing complex; Stuyvesant Town; Co-op City; and recent additions like Via Verde. Plans, models, archival photos, and newly commissioned portraits of buildings and tenants put the efforts of the past century into social, political, and cultural context and look ahead to future prospects for below-market subsidized housing.
