Résumé:
A collection of more than 400 homes from more than 290 architects, the ''Atlas of Mid-Century Modern Houses'' showcases work by such icons as Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, Alvar Aalto, and Oscar Niemeyer, and more. The book is organized geographically into nine continental regions- North America, Central America, South America, Europe North, Europe South, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australasia- and includes classic mid-century modern buildings as well as lesser-known examples across the globe, proving that mid-century modernism was truly an international architectural phenomenon.

Résumé:
"I Hate the Lake District" offers a different vision of the rural environment from those found in much contemporary nature writing. Based on the author's trips around North West England, the book engages with nuclear power and nuclear war, slavery, imperialism, ghosts, love, God, cockroaches, and the sheer violence and contingency of “nature” itself—of which the human presence is merely a part. Each chapter starts with an account of a visit to a place in this remote part of England, the deep north, but digresses and wanders through multifarious themes and subjects.

The photographs are drawn from the archives of the Montreal Gazette, one of North America’s longest-publishing daily newspapers. While the photographs are the focus of this volume, the texts that accompany them tell the story of one of North America’s most fascinating cities.

The County Court House, symbolic center of each community from the Colonial era to the present, reflects the attitudes and aspirations of each generation up to our time. This exploration of a vital part of American life tells us much about the people who left their mark on these spaces over a period of two and a half centuries and makes an important contribution to the knowledge of the architecture of the United States. From log cabin to high rise, the photographs and texts encompass modest Colonial buildings and flamboyant structures which are the reflections of properity and pride. The court house stands for the dignity of the law and the democratic principle and is the most significant single building widely distributed across the country.

Résumé:
It is widely believed that only the growth of mass suburbs after World War II brought suburban living within reach of blue-collar workers, immigrants, and racial minorities. But in this original and intensive study of Toronto, Richard Harris shows that even prewar suburbs were socially and ethnically diverse, with a significant number of lower-income North American families making their homes on the urban fringe. In the United States and Canada, lack of planning set the stage for a uniquely North American tragedy. "Unplanned Suburbs" serves as a reminder of the dangers of unchecked suburban growth.
