In Punctuation: Art, Politics, and Play, Jennifer DeVere Brody places punctuation at center stage. She illuminates the performative aspects of dots, ellipses, hyphens, quotation marks, semicolons, colons, and exclamation points by considering them in relation to aesthetics and experimental art. Through her readings of texts and symbols ranging from style guides to digital art, from emoticons to dance pieces, Brody suggests that instead of always clarifying meaning, punctuation can sometimes open up space for interpretation, enabling writers and visual artists to interrogate and reformulate notions of life, death, art, and identity politics.

Résumé:
"Hyperbodies" are buildings and environments which can continuously change shape and content. The mutations of such buildings depend on the input coming from their user as well as from the surroundings. This interaction between user and building is determined by a data flow which the hyperbody uses and converts into a ”hypersurface” structure, which then alters our perception of space in and around the hyperbody. The architect programs this interaction and can thereby define the specific character of the building. In this book, the author provides a concise overview of this latest digital tool.

Résumé:
This handsome book explores the recent use of figurative characteristics in the design arts. Through digital literacy and enhanced fabrication techniques, this avant-garde movement has reintroduced hybrids of methods and ideologies that were once considered too ornamental in character or too handcrafted for the 20th-century minimalist design lexicon. Both large urban-scale architecture and the small domestic realm of design are employing this avant-garde vocabulary formally and figuratively in the terms of shapes and surfaces that evoke trees, tornadoes, parasols, photography, death, illness, food, music, and sensuality.

Résumé:
The German journalist Oliver Herwig has been studying the transformation of living spaces and dream interiors for years. In this book, he portrays a society in the throes of digital transformation. The lines between work, leisure and rest have been blurred, as our homes become temporary, multipurpose work, fun and multimedia spaces; the office has invaded the home, and the world of smart shopping is always just a word away thanks to Alexa. Nothing quite fits anymore, yet everything must have its place. Welcome to the hybrid home.

Résumé:
Going beyond discussions of post-Net production in the digital realm, this issue invites in the ghost of Friedrich Kittler to address “media” via the nexus of its fraught theoretical legacy – ’90s techno-determinism versus the biopolitical forces of capital in the social field. What if, rather than writing a social history of media, we thought through media to read our social sphere? The fallout is recombined here as a framework for engaging, and perhaps upending, contemporary relations of body, class, and power and the devices and cultural techniques by which they are bound.

Résumé:
Big Tech firms dominate the global economy. But what value do they actually produce? In this brilliant survey of global tech economy, Nick Dyer-Witheford and Alessandra Mularoni argue that the role of firms like Amazon and Google, Palantir and Uber, is in the automation of circulation. By applying digital technologies to processes of market exchange—everything from advertising and shopping, to logistics and financial services—Big Tech aims to subject these activities to the level of control and predictability that capital has secured in industrial production. But there is a way out of the multiple crises that Big Tech has helped precipitate. If we are to break their grip on the global economy then it’ll take more than just antitrust legislation or reducing individual time online. By understanding the central role Big Tech plays in contemporary capitalism, Dyer-Witheford and Mularoni argue that what is required instead is a new, ambitious and comprehensive program of democratic collective planning that can move us beyond capitalism. ''Cybernetic Circulation Complex'' offers not only a compelling analysis of the power of Big Tech and their role in our current global crises, but a roadmap for a new form of life: biocommunism, a digital degrowth that can help us steer between the double boundaries of ecological sustainability and equitable social development.
