Japanese architect Shuhei Endo can be defined as an architect of steel, since he distinctly favors this material in the buildings he designs, continually experimenting with its infinite possibilities. His works are apparently weightless: undulating sheets of steel are twisted into spirals and wrapped around buildings in overlapping layers, like petals of flowers, or arranged on different levels to create a membrane around open spaces. This approach is most evident in the "great roofs" that house Endo-designed offices, such as Rooftecture N (Nisinomiya, Hyogo, 1998), or spaces for relaxation and meetings, such as Rooftecture T (Fukui, 1997), as well as private homes, such as Springtecture H (Harima, 1998) and Rooftecture M (Maruoka, 2001). This hand-made sketchbook was then dedicated to her daughter, Julia, who was studying architecture at the time. This publication is a facsimile of the original sketchbook, an artist's book work embedded with the history of the cultural artefacts long-since disassembled and the actions of the artist in walking through time and space, documenting and compiling the material.

Le 16 juillet 1929, l'aristocrate Charles de Beistegui passe commande à Le Corbusier d'un appartement-terrasse au n°136 des Champs-Élysées – l'ancien hôtel particulier de sa grand-mère. Membre de la haute bohème cosmopolite des Années folles, ce jeune dandy entend s'inspirer des fêtes légendaires se déroulant dans le penthouse de Condé Nast sur Madison Avenue (1925), et relatées dans les titres à la mode lui appartenant – dont Vogue et Vanity Fair. Mais pour Wim van den Bergh, la « machine à amuser » dont rêve Beistegui (avec périscope et baie motorisée), aurait aussi à voir avec le château et la « petite maison » Art Déco réalisés par Robert Mallet-Stevens pour ses amis Paul Poiret « Le Magnifique » (1921-1923, inachevé) ainsi que Charles et Marie-Laure de Noailles (1923-1933)... Architecte diplômé de l'Université technique d'Eindhoven, Wim van den Bergh enseigne depuis 2001 à la RWTH Aachen University d'Aix-la-Chapelle, en Allemagne.

The 160 shows featuring work by more than 750 artists have always been transient affairs — in the early years, most exhibitions were on display for a mere two day. The book is a survey of the artists who visited or moved to Berlin in the past thirteen years and shows how contemporary art changed over time. Autocenter has not only been a keen observer of the city’s arts scene, it also helped shape its evolution.
