Résumé:
With the creation of the Audi Forum, the Audi automobile plant in Ingolstadt--which formerly consisted largely of car production halls--has been given a new focus and become an extension of public space. For many years, the steadily expanding plant was virtually isolated from the outside world. Now, with the urban restructuring of the site, the ensemble may be seen as a convincing translation into spatial form of the company's policy of opening itself to the public. The lively Forum, with its light-filled and spacious architecture, conveys a sense of urbanity.

Résumé:
Focusing on 35 distinct areas of the city, this book presents the new face of the German capital including the former West, the new center, and the government district with stunning photographs that look at the startling contrasts between old and new. Both local and international architects have carried out rebuilding projects, most famously Renzo Piano ’s Daimler Chrysler project, Michael Wilford ’s British Embassy in Berlin, Norman Foster ’s Reichstagconversion, Helmut Jahn ’s piece for Sony, Daniel Libeskind ’s Jewish Museum Berlin. Architectural historian Christiane Kruse examines Berlin ’s vibrant, checkered past, offering surprising insights into its rebirth as a thriving, thoroughly modern metropolis and using texts that place current developments in a historical context. Rare, archive photographs from the GDR and before the war show the transformation of the city.

Résumé:
As sculptor, draughtsman, photographer, and environmental artist, Mary Miss straddles the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, and installation art. Her work moves from the urban bustle of New York, to the vast plains of the American Midwest, to the remote forests of Finland, and has been acclaimed worldwide for its poetry and power. Designed in association with the artist, this exquisitely produced monograph, a comprehensive overview of Miss's work, features thirty-five color images and over 150 duotone photographs of her projects accompanied by copious drawings by the artist. Architectural historian Daniel Abramson, who has been granted unparalleled access to the artist and her archives, addresses each of her projects in detail. An introduction by the well-known art critic Eleanor Heartney situates Miss in the context of contemporary movements in art. Architecture critic Joseph Giovannini places her work within contemporary design practice. Together, the text and images of Mary Miss provide a remarkable look at the work of this groundbreaking public artist.

Résumé:
Saarinen's buildings are famous worldwide: the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, the TWA terminal in JFK Airport, Dulles Airport, outside Washington D.C., the CBS Building in New York, the General Motors Technical Center in Michigan, the US Embassy in London, and many other landmarks. Equally celebrated are his furniture designs, including the Tulip Table and Womb Chair. While Saarinen's exuberant, even expressionistic, forms were lightning rods for many critics, his unique personal style is now much admired, making him a key figure for many designers practicing today. Saarinen's was a career of innovation. His airport terminals combined the poetry of sculpture with daring structural feats and raganizational genius; his pioneering industrial complexes for GM, IBM, and Bell Labs brought rational modernism to corporate America; and his furniture and residential buildings conveyed an optimistic, humane vision for the future. This illustrated monograph spans Saarinen's entire career, including his drawings, models, most important built works, and furniture.
