Résumé:
Throughout the modern era, photography has been enlisted not only to document but also to classify the world and its people. Its status bolstered by a popular belief in the scientific objectivity of photographic evidence, photography has been used, from the earliest days of the medium, to produce and organize knowledge about the external world. Published to accompany the exhibition The Order of Things: Photography from The Walther Collection, this catalogue investigates the production and uses of serial portraiture, vernacular imagery, architectural surveys and time-based performance in photography from the 1880s to the present, bringing together works by artists from Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.

In 1933, John Rice founded Black Mountain College in North Carolina as an experiment in making artistic experience central to learning. Though it operated for only 24 years, this pioneering school played a significant role in fostering avant-garde art, music, dance, and poetry, and an astonishing number of important artists taught or studied there. Among the instructors were Josef and Anni Albers, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Buckminster Fuller, Karen Karnes, M. C. Richards, and Willem de Kooning, and students included Ruth Asawa, Robert Rauschenberg, and Cy Twombly. Leap Before You Look is a singular exploration of this legendary school and of the work of the artists who spent time there

Résumé:
Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus are adamant when they say it is very interesting to work outside their home country of Portugal, but it is especially stimulating to return. In interviews, however, they have often pointed to the problems they are faced with when working in Portugal: lack of planning, overly restrictive regulations, very limited market for experimenting with new materials and systems, and vanishing craftsmanship. Yet they are positive that these challenges contribute to architecture’s continued improvement. This guidebook is both a reference to the numerous built works in Portugal by Aires Mateus and an itinerary spanning 21 cities, from north to south.

Résumé:
''Arctic Practices: Design for a Changing World'' emerges at a critical juncture wherein the very stability of Arctic ecosystems hangs in a precarious balance induced, almost entirely, by humans. This volume assembles forty-six contributors—designers, educators, artists, photographers, filmmakers, some Indigenous, some residents, and some visitors to the Circumpolar North—to create a polyvocal assembly of Arctic practices. ''Arctic Practices'' stands as both documentation and provocation—an attempt to record current practices while simultaneously imagining new possibilities for Arctic design in an age of crisis. By bringing diverse voices and perspectives together, this publication hopes to contribute to an emerging discourse that recognizes the urgency of climate action and the necessity of anticolonial practice in Arctic contexts.

This fourth book in a series of monographs on projects by h2o architectes looks back at the Chapelle Charbon urban development project in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, part of a major transformation of north-eastern Paris and, in particular, the area around Porte de la Chapelle. The project proposed by h2o aims to transform a former indus- trial and rail logistics site perceived as a nuisance into a new destination, in particular by connecting all the former dead-end roads to open up the site. The project is based on the creation of a large park of over 6 hectares, delivered in advance of the construction of new housing and roads.

Résumé:
In "Exit interview," the prominent art critics and historians Hal Foster and Benjamin Buchloh discuss their intellectual foundations and the projects they've worked on together, from October magazine to Art Since 1900. Through three engaging conversations, Foster engages Buchloh on his early influences and aspirations, his formative years in Berlin, London, and Dusseldorf, and his career in North America, while exploring the impact of other art historians and critics. Buchloh candidly addresses his successes, critical significance, and unexplored avenues in art history, providing a unique window into his motivations and experiences. With a powerful postface by Buchloh, "Exit interview" builds from biography and anecdote to important reflection on one's critical life as a whole.

Résumé:
"Footnotes from the most fascinating museums" is a collection of the greatest and most beloved museums of North America, illustrated and explored through fun and fascinating anecdotes. Curated by Bob Eckstein, author of the New York Times bestseller "Footnotes from the world's greatest bookstores", this delightful twist on an art history book shows these institutes in a way not seen before, illustrated in a lush and idealized style. The 75+ museums featured include the biggest and boldest names (MoMA, the Whitney) and the more offbeat (Museum of Bad Art, the Museum of Jurassic Technology). They span the US, Canada, and Mexico and include those specializing in art, natural history, academia and science, and more.
