Résumé:
Dafi Ku¨hne is a Swiss designer who works with analogue and digital techniques to produce fresh and unique letterpress-printed posters. Using very different kinds of tools — from a computer to a pantograph — for his compositions, he pushes the boundaries of design. Never afraid of getting his hands dirty in his creative workshop, Dafi Kühne embraces the labor involved in the entire process of creating a poster, from initial idea to finished product. Fusing modern means with the century-old tradition of letterpress, he forms a new vocabulary for how to communicate through type and form in a truly contemporary way. Never retro, his work is a clever response to the search for new possibilities of graphic expression: true print.

Résumé:
Perhaps most well known for the iconic sculpture "Cadillac Ranch" and performances like "Media Burn", the radical architecture and media art group Ant Farm created an abundance of works across disciplines — including video, publications, built environments, and performance. Less known are the group’s “time capsule” works made throughout their career, which rejected the idea of the time capsule as a reliable means of cultural preservation. Published as a supplement to the exhibition "The Present Is the Form of All Life: The Time Capsules of Ant Farm and LST", this book features essays, an interview with LST, and many never before published or reproduced images of archival material, tracing the time capsule works of Ant Farm and successor group LST from analog archive to digital database.

As Aaron Betsky notes in his introductory essay, that while Guallart is an active member of what has been called emergent architecture, his practice goes further, generating a body of work that emerges from both physical and social – both real and digital – structures. While the architect himself suggests that the end purpose of architecture is not (solely) to build, but also to define environments where human life can be organised. To support these observations, such projects as Denia Mountain, the Spanish Pavilion for Shanghai Expo 2010, the Keelung Maritime Plaza and Fugee Port in Taiwan, the Cambrils Sea Apartments and the Sociopolis Masterplan, Valencia are examined. Seventeen works and projects are presented in total, accompanied by essays, texts, photographs and elaborate technical drawings. Texts in English/Chinese

Résumé:
''Daddy wouldn't buy me a Bauhaus'' collects the writings of legendary British wordsmith Janet Abrams for the first time. From pivotal figures in international modernism to the pioneers of digital medium, Abrams explored the ideas, theories, and emotions that fueled their work. The book's twenty-six profiles, written in Abrams's signature, personal, often hilarious style, include Reyner Banham, Berthold Lubetkin, Philip Johnson, Paul Rand, Phyllis Lambert, Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhaas, Muriel Cooper, April Greiman, and Michael Bloomberg. Many of the profiles are back in print for the first time, having originally appeared in Blueprint, I.D. magazine, the Independent, and in books and catalogs from the 1980s through the early 2000s. A foreword by Blueprint's founding editor, Deyan Sudjic, and new reflections by Abrams set the stage.

Résumé:
From the economic to the political, from public health to the climate, models seem to run the world. In architecture, the model is no longer just a physical tool for conceptualizing or representing architects’ visions but must also encompass digital and 3D-printed models, data and artificial intelligence models, business models, educational models, and even engage the discipline’s own questionable history in establishing role models. A thematic issue, ''Log 50: model behavior'' interrogates models in this expanded sense: what are their values, their behaviors, and the behaviors they elicit. In a record-setting 256 pages, 39 authors, ranging from established architectural thinkers to up-and-coming practitioners, examine the role of the model in architecture today through critical essays, conversations, observations, projects, and provocations.

Résumé:
Ever since building began, architecture has relied on mathematics to achieve visual harmony, structural integrity, and logical construction. For most of the history of building, architects have applied the principles of Euclidean geometry, the description of points, lines, and volumes according to the three axes of space. Recently, however, digital design tools and massive computer processing power, along with an increasing interest in physics and pure mathematics, have given architects the means to describe and build spatial constructs that would have been inconceivable even ten years ago. This survey of some forty international projects offers an overview of how different strategies are being employed through accessible illustrations and clear text. Each section presents case studies of projects by globally recognized architects through diagrams, photographs, and texts.

Surveillance cameras ensure our safety, antennae and sensors track the speed of our cars, while electronic gates decide who is to be granted access to an increasing number of delimited zones. The book charts this international trend, using case studies in Shanghai, Tokyo, London and Rio de Janeiro, as well as cities in the Netherlands. What are the consequences of an ultra-monitored society? When does the technology aid us and when does it restrict us? Who wields control over the technology? And who sits behind the contraptions that are tracking us? Expert authors tackle these questions and make recommendations for the future. Incorporating digital media into the book's design, tags make it possible to download supplementary information and videos via an Internet-capable mobile device.

Résumé:
The “old” material of wood has been used to construct dwellings of different types since the dawn of mankind. And not without reason. Its low density combined with high rigidity, good processability, and its resistance makes it an excellent building material. There is currently a pioneering renaissance of the timber construction, for two distinct reasons: first, wood is increasingly being rediscovered as one of the most important renewable raw materials for sustainable construction. Moreover, a revolution in the construction of timber structures began several years ago with the ever-progressive use of three-dimensional CAD models for digitally controlled robot manufacturing The book documents these developments, in particular the engineering bonding techniques, the introduction of digital production techniques, and the innovative material developments of this material.

Marking the first in a new series of exhibitions, this project from the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art highlights three design studios with biochemistry and biology at the core of their practice. London-based ecoLogicStudio focuses on climate and carbon neutrality, and how photosynthesis can be incorporated into architecture. Atelier LUMA is the research design branch of LUMA Arles, mapping and identifying the local resources of the unique bioregion of Camargue to build its own studio. Finally, the Ithaca, New York–based Jenny Sabin Studio uses theory and knowledge from biology and mathematics to help develop new digital tools and structures that work in interaction with people and nature. This catalog highlights each firm’s most important projects alongside three conversations between the studio founders and an expert architectural
