This profusely illustrated publication presents the complete oeuvre spanning twenty years on the basis of five themes. "Living" focuses on the private houses and apartment buildings such as those for Jager, Nieuwland and Soutelande. "Working" gives a picture of such diverse projects as the Amsterdam office for Wagons Lits, the Provincial Hall in Groningen, de Malie Tower in The Hague and the Mors factory in Opmeer. "Shopping" describes recent projects in Leidschendam, Amsterdam Zuid-Oost and Schiphol. "Travelling" likewise features various projects for Schiphol, supplemented with proposals for Amsterdam's North/South underground line and Lelystad airport. Finally in "Visiting" we encounter the firm's many recreational and museological projects such as the popcluster 013 in Tilburg, new major spaces for the RAI and Ahoy' complexes, the so-called cultural strip in Amstelveen, and the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam.

In Taking to the Streets Dan Horner examines how the urban environment became a vital and contentious political site during the tumultuous period from the end of the 1837-38 rebellions to the burning of Parliament in 1849. Employing a close reading of newspaper and judicial archives, he looks at a broad range of collective crowd experiences, including riots, labour demonstrations, religious processions, and parades. By examining how crowd events were used both to assert claims of political authority and to challenge their legitimacy, Horner charts the development of a contentious democratic political culture in British North America. Taking to the Streets is an important contribution to the political and urban history of pre-Confederation Canada and a timely reminder of how Montrealers from all walks of life have always used the streets to build community and make their voices heard.

In Florencia Pita and Jackilin Bloom’s studio, 'Easy Office', students experimented with ways of generating new spatial, formal, material, and narrative ideas through the processes of collecting, collaging, and casting everyday objects. The studio considered notions of the creative office and the workplace based on the unexpected space, form, and materiality that emerged from these processes. Students in Omar Gandhi’s studio, 'Where the Wild Things Are', designed a campus of creatures for Rabbit Snare Gorge on the north coast of Cape Breton Island. They focused on a series of interventions that used vernacular approaches to produce specific functions, develop a process or ideology, and frame sensory experience. The students explored how Nova Scotia’s regional architecture takes advantage of phenomenological opportunities available on the site and inspires new responses to climate and geography.

In more than thirty-five years of practice, he has produced a wide range of building types with a variety of stylistic influences, all inspired by the great legacy of American architecture. This illustrated monograph-a companion to "Robert A. M. Stern: houses"- presents twenty-six of the firm's most memorable houses. Located in diverse settings across North America-from a valley in Colorado with views of the Aspen mountains to a bluff overlooking Long Island Sound to an island off the coast of British Columbia-these houses reveal the architect's emphasis on the importance of context and his dedication to exploring the nature of space. Each house invokes the vernacular architectural heritage particular to its region while reflecting its unique natural surroundings. The HOME House Project brings such imagining closer to reality. This book chronicles a multi-year national design initiative aimed at addressing issues of design, affordability, and sustainability in housing. Launched by the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this project challenged designers and architects to imagine a world in which sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, technologies, and techniques were considered important elements of housing for low- and moderate-income families. A SECCA-sponsored open competition in 2003 drew 440 entries from the United States and six other countries, all using Habitat for Humanity's three- and four-bedroom house plans as a point of departure for the design of affordable and environmentally friendly housing. This book, published in conjunction with a traveling exhibition, documents the 25 prize-winning designs as well as fifty other selected submissions with 396 colour illustrations. The accompanying text includes Michael Sorkin's essay connecting democratic values to quality of housing, Ben Nicholson's satiric critique of American excess, Steve Badanes's insights on the social responsibilities of architects, and HOME House Project Director David Brown's overview of the project and its continuing evolution.
