Résumé:
Featuring more than 20 works by Japanese architect Koh Kitayama, this compact monograph covers his practice over a twelve-year period beginning in 2002. Interested in collective forms found in cities and how these are meant to support the activities of everyday life, Kitayama has explored transformations in residential districts in Tokyo in order to contemplate the renewal of its urban composition, comparing it to representative cities of the past. His goal is for architects to present a spatial model for the future with which society can identify, and he develops this through his own houses, residential complexes and integrated urban projects.

Résumé:
Architects are now taking advantage of the computer in new ways through experimentation with algorithmic and simulation-driven design. Computation Works focuses on this emerging theme in design practice, showcasing built and soon to be built projects and providing a state of the art in computational design. The use of algorithmic and simulation-driven design raises important new questions which the book examines including: how is computation changing the way architects design? How can computation create new forms of architecture? Is there an aesthetic to computational architecture? Are the design tools and methods related to the result?

Résumé:
The architects of the Rotterdam architecture practice Biq Stadsontwerp realize that the human habitat is no pristine idyll. Hans van der Heijden and Rick Wessels consider the habitat to be the architect's field of work and the gauge of the design. The design's effectiveness is the product of traditions and societal conventions, of the dreams, desires, and fictions of its inhabitants, but also of the possibilities and limitations of the construction industry. biq stadsontwerp links architectonic forms to the negotiations inherent in working in the modern city. Habitat examines this realism through five of the practice's designs.
