Résumé:
The design of digital typefaces is an essential part of the modern media culture. Fonts are not only purveyors of content, but are often a central, identity-creating element in both commercial and artistic production. Innovations in the field of information technology enhance the significance of type design, since constantly changing design requests, in onscreen as well as print media, generate an inexhaustible demand for original designs. Subtext: Typedesign explores these developments through the designs of over 50 locally and globally active designers. Each contemporary typeface design presented is either closely or tangentially connected with Austria. Furthermore, renowned authors from various cultural and scientific fields discuss their relationship to type and its design.

Résumé:
Herbarium taste is a graphic project designed to be eaten: a collection, a nutritional herbarium divided into seasons. Fruits and vegetables are represented in a simple and essential way, and they are then sectioned to reveal the valuable resources contained within. Herbarium taste is not a treatise on medicine, nor is it a boring health lesson; it is an easy way of showing that there is something important in each piece of fruit or vegetable, and that it would be good for our well being to include them in our repertoire of recipes. It is a small educational manual that lists nutritional information and pieces of trivia, like crumbs of knowledge to be eaten up in one mouthful.

Résumé:
For over 25 years, Martin Rauch has been at the forefront of research and development in all aspects of rammed earthed construction. As proper design with earth can only come from truly understanding the material, he would now like to share his experience and knowledge of this construction material in a design manual. The publication goes beyond projects to focus on structural elements, such as the design and layout of floors, walls, ceilings and openings, which are clearly explained with detailed project information from structures previously realised by Martin Rauch. Various examples help to illustrate how to overcome structural engineering difficulties in earth construction and the design possibilities that result from these solutions.

Résumé:
“Copies in an Age of Network Culture” is interested in the possibilities in how network culture, an organism with an ever increasing speed, has physically changed architecture—an industry notoriously known for its extreme slowness. Today, the network not only connects the world, it reconfigures both culture and subjectivity by transforming the way we produce and share ideas. The 1976 book, The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins defines a meme as a set of cultural data that acts like a genome—replicating, spreading, and mutating in response to the selective demands of the culture in which they develop. Yet, information when imitated is subject to variation, and no copy is in fact the same.

Dealing with color is a complex topic: influenced by standards, fashions, and trends, we derive our ideas and concepts from color theories, intuition, and personal preferences. Most color classification systems available today are based on purely quantitative principles and include well over 1,500 colors. So how do we choose a particular color? Building on the success of her sample book 128 Colors, Katrin Trautwein presents a new selection of 225 colors, which is the result of her many years of cooperation with architects, designers, and conservators. Each color is presented with a handmade paint sample. Information on each color’s composition and origin is provided, and the features that distinguish it for architecture and design work are described.

Alongside Greene's own texts there are essays by Samantha Hardingham, Sand Helsel, Sam Jacob and Robin Middleton. 'The brink of a conceptual abyss - not a bad place to be?' David Greene (founding member of the legendary 'Archigram', this is the first monograph on his solo work) and his collaborators invite you to view projects that chart a peripatetic drift from form to invisibility, in the process illuminating the possibilities for architecture in a culture dominated by information technology. Accepted definitions and applications of new technologies are doggedly raised and questioned."

Résumé:
Before architectural postmodernism was named as such, the process of postmodernizing architecture had already begun implicating architectural work in the increasingly information-driven logic of the late twentieth century. Though radical, the effects of this process have long been excluded from the predominant histories of postmodernism, which continue to rely on notions of individual and creative genius, architectural autonomy, and stylistic genealogies. Architecture Itself and Other Postmodernization Effects places material devices, such as Pantone chips, research grant applications, questionnaires, Xerography, and travel photography, at the forefront of a counter-narrative that recasts these informatic procedures as fundamentally architectural and as the primary of catalysts of the loose agglomeration of styles that was once called postmodernism.

Résumé:
Examines Perec's impact on architecture, art, design, media, electronic communications, computing and the everyday. What do Perec's descriptions of the minutiae of everyday life reveal about our use of information and communications technologies? What happens if we read "Life: A User's Manual" as a toolbox of ideas for games studies? What light does the concept of the 'infra-ordinary' shed on social media? What insights does algorithmic writing generate for the digital humanities? What lessons can architects, artists, game-designers and writers draw from Perec's fascination with creative constraints? Through an examination of such questions, this collection takes Perec scholarship beyond its existing limits to offer new ways of rethinking our present.

Résumé:
Remember those 3-D movies, the ones that you had to wear the cardboard glasses to see? This definitive book brings it all back, but from the standpoint of serious artists, designers and anyone else interested in the origins of visual phenomena. With his figure and stereo experiments, author Jurg Nänni guides the reader through the mysterious cosmos of visual perception. The included eyeglasses allow exceptional optical experiences, complemented by interactive experiments on the included CD-ROM. Texts, visual examples and CD-experiments allow readers to acquire the background information for their own creative work, and to answer the questions: How do optical illusions emerge? And how can our eyes be fooled at all?
