Résumé:
William Pereira helped define emerging social values: he designed every building type imaginable, from houses to hospitals, as well as inventing some of his own, such as the Television Studios for CBS in Los Angeles, which were the first of their kind. For the expansion of Los Angeles International Airport Pereira convinced authorities to adapt the facility to jet planes before jet travel was commonplace. This monograph captures Pereira’s talent and influence, featuring in-depth, behind-the-scenes views of his most well known projectcs, including the CBS, USC Masterplan, the University of California (Irvine) campus, the Doha Masterplan, the Transamerica Tower in San Francisco, and the LA Airport.

We are bodies among other bodies; living and dead, solid and fluid, raw and transformed, recognisable or in disguise. To live is to interact, but what are we interacting with? "The domestic encyclopaedia" is a collection of stories that explore the material body of architecture, of houses. In the midst of ongoing ecological disaster and increased alienation from nature it invites you to travel beyond the screen, to practice attention and probe the nature of domestic space.

Résumé:
Rachel Harrison's assemblages of found and constructed objects carry a provisional quality, a wry sense of humor and an all-embracing intelligence. Playing with materials ranging from plinth, pedestal and corrugated cardboard to plastic ketchup bottles, insulated travel mugs and Barbie's wheelchair-bound friend, Harrison creates colorful, canny, thought-provoking constructions that are worthy peers of Rauschenberg's Combines. This volume, the most comprehensive monograph of Harrison's sculpture, video and painting to date, provides documentation of the past 15 years of her work and includes essays by Tom Eccles, David Joselit, Iwona Blazwick and Jack Bankowsky, plus contributions from Paul Chan, John Kelsey, Allan McCollum, Lucy Raven, Amy Sillman and Steven Stern.

Résumé:
Première monographie dédiée aux mondes oniriques miniatures créés par les animations délicates du jeune artiste vidéaste japonais, avec un essai et un entretien. Hiraki Sawa uses lo-tech video animation to create poetic dreamscapes, ruminations on ideas of time and motion, innocence and alienation, dislocation and displacement. His seminal film ‘Dwelling’ was made while he was still a graduate student at the Slade School of Fine Art and brought him to the attention of the international art world. Certain leitmotifs recur throughout the films – a child’s rocking horse, migrating animals, model jet planes, objects which play out notions of travel and nomadism, of being at home and thinking of elsewhere.

Starling is a key figure in one of contemporary art's most significant recent developments: the linking of artistic practice and knowledge production. Although this tendency flourished with Conceptual art in the 1960s and 1970s, in recent years it has taken on a new intensity. Unlike the Conceptual artists, however, many of whom strove for a language-based dematerialized art, for Starling the object is always at the work's heart. Economies, ecologies, coincidences and convergences are all simply means to an end -- although 'simply' may be the wrong word to describe the transformation of thousands of miles of travel and hundreds of years of history into a single sculpture, film or photograph.

Résumé:
Rethinking the Great White North moves the idea of whiteness to the centre of debates about Canadian history, geography, and identity. Informed by critical race theory and the insight that racism is geographical as well as historical and cultural, scholars from multiple disciplines explore how notions of race, whiteness, and nature helped shape the nation, from travel writing to treaty making, from scientific research to park planning, and within small towns, cities, and tourist centres. Four themes - identity and knowledge, city spaces, Arctic journeys, and Native land - serve as entry points to trace how Canada's identity as a white country was built on historical geographies of nature.

Though she’s been cast as a quirky, shadowy figure, moving on the outskirts, these eye-to-eye portraits reveal a deeper Maier. These pictures show that she yearned to connect with people around her. That she often stopped them, talked to them, and always watched closely. These inspirational pictures teach us that around every corner is a chance encounter. Somebody new. But only if we notice. Here we travel the world with Maier, visiting more than a dozen countries in Asia, Europe, and South America. We take trips with her through the United States and get to tag along as she walks around the block.
