Résumé:
Andre Le Notre (1613-1700) was the greatest landscape architect in France, and his work for Louis XIV (the Sun King) laid the groundwork for the baroque style in landscaping. He also defined the essence of French landscape design -scientific, rationalist-in counterpoint to the more romantic, naturalistic English tradition and based his work on the then state-of-the-art science of optics and perspective. The castle and gardens at Vaux-le-Vicomte (approximately 50 km south of Paris) were begun in 1653. They are the first great landscape designed by Andre Le Notre and mark the beginning of the baroque tradition in gardening. Many of the principles Le Notre tried and tested at Vaux were later employed to great acclaim at Versailles, which he designed at the height of his career.

The humble Japanese knotweed, called ‘itadori’ in Japan, is native to East Asia but also notorious for its success in other parts of the world, so much so that it has been classified as an invasive species in several countries. It is feared in Europe, North America, and Australia, where it is actively eradicated. In following photographer Watanabe Koichi in his research and quest to track it down everywhere, we stray into the entanglement created by the movement of people and capital in the modern age, itself a giant moving thicket of nature, knowledge, technology, and industry that is not only intertwined on huge scales of complexity, but also reciprocally impacting.

Résumé:
Leisure has a huge impact on European landscapes. Contemporary Western life has given rise to all sorts of mobilities, flexibilities and incentives that fuel the sometimes dramatic changes in the landscape we are witnessing today. Can the relationship between leisure and landscape be a productive one and, if so, under what conditions? This complex relationship was the subject of a European project, instigated by Dirk Sijmons, Dutch Government Advisor on Landscape, involving thirty universities from twenty countries. This book presents the resulting design proposals in facts, figures, essays, illustrations, bibliography, maps, and photography by Martin Parr.

Résumé:
This book celebrates the patterns and abstract forms found in nature. Bernhard Edmaier’s aerial photographs show the beautiful shapes formed on the earth’s surface by rocks, ice, sand, water, trees and plants. The hundreds of images in this book make us look at the world in a new way, by showing us surprising similarities and unexpected links between the most disparate regions of the planet. Instead of seeing a forest or a desert or a field, we see circles and lines, zigzags and spirals, abstract shapes and precise repetition occurring in the most unexpected places. In this book, Edmaier`s photographs are organized by shape and form into clearly defined sections, with tabbed pages for easy access. Each section features short texts explaining where the types of patterns depicted in that chapter are found and how they are formed. In additon, every picture has a caption describing the location of the depicted pattern, and how it was created.

Résumé:
A growing, living house, a building made of a plant seems to be a contradiction in terms. Nevertheless, the Khasi in eastern India already knew how to connect the roots of rubber trees to form footbridges, and in southern Germany dance linden trees formed the centre of villages for centuries. Following on from this, the new discipline of Baubotanik is dedicated to designing with trees. Build projects, prototypes and visionary concepts point the way to a new green architecture. This introduction shows the possibilities of such living constructions and explains the botanical growth principles that guide the design. The basics of constructing with trees are presented. The book encourages a whole new look at architecture that becomes part of urban nature.
