Résumé:
"Landscapes of play: A collection of imaginative spaces in Japan" is a self-published book exploring Japan’s unique and influential approach to outdoor play design, beginning with Mitsuru Senda’s pioneering of the “play apparatus” concept of the 1960s and extending to more contemporary play environments at the Showa Memorial Park in Tokyo. Through a combination of photography, research and personal reflections, it documents how these environments invite children and adults to play in ways that transcend conventional designs. The book also features a conversation with Norihiro Kanekiyo from Takano Landscape Planning —the office responsible for several of the projects in the book— which offers deep insight into their design approach to play and the role of nature in the conceptualization of these spaces.

Today, tourism is rooted in a model of environmental and cultural degradation. 'AV Proyectos' presents seven alternatives that anticipate a hopeful shift towards community-based rural life, from C733's Jaguar Park in Mexico to Ryue Nishizawa's Shishi-Iwa House in Japan. As Gonzalo Pardo and Andrés Rubio point out in the article accompanying this section, its harmful impact must be confronted by defending local tradition and identity. David Chipperfield has shared his experience and also highlighted the growing difficulty of accessing housing, which has created a social crisis in London and is now surfacing in Galicia. The issue continues with the construction of the French Lycée Library in Madrid by Alberto Campo Baeza, and an introduction to the creative process of designers Muller Van Severen.

Every great city is constantly growing and dying. Carl Sandburg described Chicago in 1916 as "building, breaking, rebuilding." Chicago invented and then reinvented the skycraper, making it reach higher than anywhere else in the world. Visalli photographs the architectural masterpieces famous throughout the world-from Louis Sullivan's ornemental facades to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's sleek office towers-as well as the works of the new generation of the Chicago school of architecture. But Chicago is about more than buildings : Visalli shoots the dark girders of the El, the taverns open all night, the pomp of Michigan avenue, and verdant green Lincoln Park. With more than 200 images, "Chicago" captures the visual paradoxes and triuphs of this great American city.

In 2003, he realized one of his first architectural projects : for his artist-and-gallerist friend Kenny Schachter he designed the multifunctional gallery space conTEMPorary in New York. This experimental space became programmatic for their further collaboration, up to their latest project in King’s Cross, London. Over the past years, Vito Acconci has moved towards architecture. Today’s Acconci Studio covers planning for such diverse projects as the Skateboard Park in San Juan, the Inside-Out Bookstore for Documenta X, or an urban planning for Tel Aviv. Vito Acconci and Kenny Schachter met for two discussions in London and Basel in 2004 and 2005.

Résumé:
This book brings together portraits of children from the series Siblings and Singles, Clara Gutsche’s most recent body of photographic work, produced over the last fifteen years. In these images, Gutsche explores the themes of childhood and intergenerational relations and continues her reflection on the photographic medium, time, and representation. This book illuminates her engagement with the photographed subject through a practice that has spanned five decades since the 1970s, and has left its mark on the imagination and history of Canadian photography. The thirty-two silver prints from the series "Milton-Parc" (1970-73), "The Cencic Sisters (1974-76), "Sarah" (1982-89) and "Jeanne-Mance Park" (1982-84) reproduced here belong to the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Résumé:
Jason Fulford’s latest book is a vibrant riff on conceptual artist Sol LeWitt’s 1977 publication PhotoGrids. Lots Of Lots transforms the seemingly quotidian objects captured by Fulford in nearly seven hundred photographs into an evocative collection of interconnected and overlapping forms. Employing a 3x3 format with nine square images on each page, the book groups subjects by idiosyncratic features such as colour palette, slogans, distinctive shadows, and geometric shape. Untethered by location, style, or time, Fulford’s collection moves between coherence and collision in reflection of the varying order and disorder of our world. An empty laundrette, a lone park bench, and a cascading waterfall find new resonance in Fulford’s wry and illuminating compositions, showing us the extant beauty among endless production and consumption.

Résumé:
Erik Steinbrecher, an artist who also has training as an architect, was born in 1963 in Basel, and currently works in Berlin. His oeuvre, which includes an archive of more than 20,000 photographs, as well as sculptures and installations based on those images, has been shown at Documenta X (on bus shelters), and at P.S.1 (Couch Park). The title of this new monograph, which at first seems to be an ironic reply to the assumed purity of Minimalism, represents the very substance of Steinbrecher's work: "Minimalist Kitsch" signifies a productive contradiction between reduction and immoderation. Minimalist Kitsch offers readers some background on the artist's career, which has largely matured off of the American stage, and recent works, including several seen for the first time here.
