Résumé:
"Whoop to the duck!" is both a comprehensive retrospective and a preview of the work of the SPLITTERWERK label, active in the conflictive context between engineering and art since 1988. The publication covers the spectrum from urbanistic designs for our “post-urban society” to the return of the ornament and the exemplary implementation of new housing designs. Frank Lloyd Wright’s open plan, Adolf Loos’ Raumplan or Margarete Schütte Lihotzky’s Frankfurt Kitchen find their contemporary continuation in the Graz Apartment. In the 21st century, the walls have a custom-made world of images which allows functions to be added “on demand”. The investigation of experimental surfaces has led Splitterwerk to fundamentally reassess imagery in architecture. It is a revival of a different nature for the "duck" (R. Venturi / D. Scott Brown) which calls for a further paradigm shift in architecture.

Résumé:
In the tense days leading up to the 2020 American elections, then-candidate for Pennsylvania State Senate Nikil Saval addressed a virtual audience at the Harvard GSD to tell a story about Black feminist writer June Jordan and a little-known project that resulted from the aftermath of the 1964 Harlem riot. The events of police brutality and community grieving made a lasting impression on Jordan, who, while known for her work as a poet, playwright, and activist, responded with a proposal for a multiple-tower housing design. Through an unlikely partnership with R. Buckminster Fuller, Jordan's "Skyrise for Harlem" project offered a Futuristic vision for Harlem that argued for environmental redesign: "it is architecture, conceived of in its fullest meaning as the creation of environment, which may actually determine the pace, pattern, and quality of living experience."

The Genealogist, in “Get the Door, It’s Domino’s,” dives into the pizza company’s trophy awards for architects. The Mortician prepares New Brutalism for the afterlife, while The Graphic Essayist fills columns with new orders. Résumé:
Investigating the current groundswell of experiments and creative work that utilises design as a method to explore and manipulate actual biological material, Neoplasmatic Design presents the impact of emerging and progressive biological advances upon architectural and design practice. The rapid development of innovative design approaches in the realms of biology, microbiology, biotechnology, medicine and surgery has immense significance for architecture, being as important for their cultural and aesthetic impact as for their technical implications. Featured architects include Peter Cook, Tobias Klein, Kol/Mac, Make, R(n), Neil Spiller and VenhoevenCS. Longer contributions from medical practitioners, architects and artists: Rachel Armstrong, Marcos Cruz, Anthony Dunne, Nicola Haines, Steve Pike, Yukihiko Sugawara, and Oron Catts and Ionat Zurr/SymbioticA. Features international research projects undertaken at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, the Royal College of Art in London, the University of Western Australia and the Nagaoka Institute of Design in Japan.

Résumé:
"Points + Lines: Diagrams and Projects for the City" is a book of New York architect Stan Allen's writings and projects that propose new architectural strategies for the contemporary city. Organized in the form of a user's manual, it juxtaposes speculative texts outlining Allen's general principles with specific projects created by his office. The book's title refers to this interplay of practice and theory, evoking not only the points of activity and the paths of movement found in a contemporary city but also the points of speculation and lines of argument in theoretical discourse. Projects include the Cardiff Bay Opera House, Wales; the Korean-American Museum of Art, Los Angeles; the Museo del Prado, Madrid; and White Columns Gallery, New York. Each project is accompanied by explanatory text as well as numerous drawings, models, photographs, and computer renderings. K. Michael Hays contributes an introductory essay; R. E. Somol writes the postscript.

Résumé:
"softspot" is a fragile space seeking to make sense of a complex now. Through a collaborative process of editing and exchange between James Taylor-Foster and OK-RM, "softspot" is a dive into the recent past. Imagined as a container for the near and the close, it contains a patchwork of prose, verse and visual work that oscillate between the subjective and the objective. Written through the lens of one writer and augmented by a conversation of contributions and references, the book represents a study in how words can be written — and how they can be held in a hand. Conceived of and compiled during 2020 and 2021 with Esther Cloe Theaker, Max Creasy, Rosita Kær, Smari R. Robertsson, Tony Karlsson Savci, and Michela Zoppi. Each "softspot" contains three copies of the same book. You are invited to keep one and to gift the others as you wish.
