Description:
The five diverse pamphlets and publications primarily document certain architecturally-related events during Vancouver's explosive growth through the 1950s. Included are a fund-raising campaign brochure for the expansion of the Vancouver Art Gallery, 1949-1951, and an invitation to the inauguration of the Frederick Lasserre Architecture and Fine Arts Building at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The building was constructed by architects Thompson, Berwick, Pratt in 1957-1958, but officially opened in 1962 after the death of Lasserre (1911-1961), UBC's first director of the school of architecture. The series also includes "Project '58", a relatively rare privately-printed pamphlet given to Rhodri Windsor-Liscombe by architect Geoffrey Massey. Written by Wells Coates, with Massey, Arthur Erickson, Peter Oberlander, and E.J. Watkins, the illustrated proposal recommended the creation of a local urban-design centre in 1958 to forestall the rise of private development through the implimentation of a master plan strategy for Vancouver. Material in this series was produced between 1946 and 1962. Series contains a pamphlet, invitation brochures and publications.

Description:
Drawings relating to Parizeau's architectural career in Montreal are represented in a number of independant projects, including a small chapel beside the St. Lawrence River, a pair of two-storey cabin-cottages outside of Montreal, and several residences in the city. The documents are mostly original preliminary studies with some reproductions of working drawings. It should be noted that there are also photographs of exterior details of the Laroque Residence and the Jarry Residence in documents CO2 in Series II. Reproductions of designs for worker housing by French architect Eugène Beaudoin in 1938 perhaps give a clue to Parizeau's relatively early employment of modernist forms. A residence in Baie D'Urfé is unlikely to be connected to Parizeau because its date, ca. 1955, is a decade after his death. Parizeau's concern with furniture and interior design is represented in the Archive with many lively perspective sketches in colour, and elevation and plan studies of several kinds of rooms and types of furniture. Some preliminary drawings for interiors were grouped with the Gillow house in Ville Mont-Royal, and the Walter Downs Residence in Montreal.

Description:
File documents an executed project for the Music School and History Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. The office of James Stirling, Michael Wilford, and Associates was initially appointed in 1986 to design the new Music School and Theatre Academy. In 1991, the programme was altered to include a new History Museum for the State of Baden-Württemberg in place of the Theatre Academy, while retaining the existing design. The project was also divided in two phases with the last phase including the planning and construction of the second part of the Music School and the History Museum. The project was completed after the death of Stirling in 1992 by the firms of Michael Wilford and Partners and Michael Wilford GmbH. Material in this file was produced between 1985 and 2000. File contains several early conceptual drawings, a large number of design development drawings, as well as presentation drawings and working drawings. Photographic materials include views of the building site and of study and presentation models by Kandor Modelmakers and by photographer Peter Walser. File also contains a large amount of textual records and a presentation model of the concert hall.

Description:
This project series documents Pettena's installation "Paper/Midwestern Ocean" initially presented in 1971 at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. The installation consists of strips of paper hanging from strings that fill the entire room. Participants are invited to cut their way into the room with a pair of scissors and all join together in the centre of the room to create an open space. The participants then all gather in the central space where Pettena gives a lecture while the audience sits on the piles of cut paper covering the floor. This installation was also presented in seven other editions from 2009 to 2017, including in the exhibition "The Death of the Audience" in Vienna; Secession in 2009; in the exhibition "Erre. Variations Labyrinthiques" at the Centre Pompidou in Metz in 2011-2012; and in the exhibition "Architetture Naturali/Gianni Pettena" at Kunst Meran in 2017. The project series contains a drawing, photographs of the first edition of the installation at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and photographs of the five following editions from 2009 to 2013. Description:
Project series documents Poli's design and development work on the Supersurface project created with Superstudio in 1972. Part of Superstudio's project, "Five Fundamental Acts: Life, Education, Ceremony, Love and Death", included films created on each theme, Supersurface was the first in the series ("Life"), and was shown at the 1972 exhibition "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape, Achievements and Problems in Italian Design" at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The final film had a running time of 15 minutes and was shot in colour on 16 mm film. Material predominantly includes project drawings, collages and sketches, along with a textual and drawn storyboard for the film. The storyboard was sent in a folder made by Poli, which has been retained as part of the fonds. Material in the folder has been kept in the order in which Poli transferred it. Of note are also 3 larger drawings, one of which is a collage of photos featuring Poli, and another is an immense brightly-coloured collage of a young woman on the edge of a sea with a machine floating beaming down on her. These drawings have been signed Alessandro Poli-Superstudio. Also included is a copy of "L'Espresso" magazine dated 4 June 1972 (no. 23), featuring Umberto Eco's article "Dal cucchiaio alla città".
