Scope and Content

This series consists of materials that Frampton collected, received or was awarded throughout his professional career, inlcuding his collection of postcards, some of which may include correspondence.

Photographs in this series comprise of professional headshots of Kenneth Frampton as well as photographs of Frampton with family members and architects at various events. Also included in this series are drawings, prints, and posters that Frampton collected or received as gifts. Objects in this box consist of several gifts and personal items, including a Chinese seal of Frampton’s name and red seal paste, his father’s moulding plane, tarot cards, a watch designed by Arata Isozaki, a tie designed by Manuel de Solà, and two sample tiles of Alvar Aalto’s studio in Helinski. Certificates, diplomas, awards and medals that Frampton received are also included in this series.

    Description:

    The box contains personal and professional photographs of Kenneth Frampton with family and architects at various events as well as professional headshots. Included in this box are photographs of Frampton with Mario Botta, Glenn Murcutt and Jospeph Rykwert as well as photographs of Frampton presenting at the Chandigarh conference (1999) and a picture of his great grandfather.

    Also included are certificates such as UIA 2011 Jean Tschumi prize and the Architectural League President's medal citation. The last several files in this box consist of drawings by various architects that were given to Frampton as gifts.

    Description:

    This box contains certificates and diplomas as well as prints, drawings, posters and vinyl records that Frampton received or collected.

    Frampton received certificates and diplomas from the following universities and associations: Architectural Association School of Architecture London (1955); the American Institiute of Architects (1993); the America Academy of Arts and Sciences, Boston (1993); Honorary Professorship, Nanjing University (2004); the University of Waterloo (1995); and the American Instititute of Architects New York State (2010).

    The box also includes: a poster for the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation designed by Kenneth Frampton; a Berlin Grafik; a drawing by A. Campo Baeza; a group photograph of Kenneth Frampton at the International Symposium of "Structure, fabric and topography"; a vinyl record of "Le Corbusier"; and a vinyl record of "Conversations regarding the future of architecture."

    Description:

    This box contains Kenneth Frampton's various certificates and diplomas as well as some prints, drawings, posters, and photographs.

    This box includes: posters of lectures and exhibitions presented at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University; a print by Frampton entitled "unfinished modern project in homage to it and to Habermas;" his diploma from the Architectural Association (1956); a certifacte from the Royal Insititute of British Architects (1961); a certificate from the L'Academie d`architecture; a Honory Fellowship from the Royal Institiute of Architects of Ireland; a professional headshot and a group photograph of Frampton at the ceremony of the American Academy of Arts and Letters (2012).

    This box also includes gifts that Frampton received over the years such as an old photograph of Frampton that was given to him for 56th birthday and drawings from SHIM SUTCLIFFE for his 80th birthday.

    Description:

    This box contains various drawings and collages, some of which are dedicated to Frampton.

    The box also comprises of posters for lectures/conferences/events that Frampton may have either participated in or attended. Posters include: the lecture on the Imaginary space of El Lissitzky, Harvard University; Place, form, and cultural identity, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne; the Alcan Lectures, McGill University; and Modern Architecture and Critique of Ulm, the University of Southern California. Also included in the box is a poster of the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, which is signed by Arata Isozaki.
