Please join Shirley Surya, curator of How Modern: Biographies of Architecture in China, 1949–1979, and Li Hua, Professor at the School of Architecture, Southeast University and contributor to the project, for a lecture exploring the exhibition and publication project’s reassessment of architecture in China between 1949 and 1979. The event revisits the multiple narratives, perspectives, and conditions through which architecture was conceived, produced, and experienced during three transformative decades in China’s history, and concludes with a discussion moderated by art and architecture critic Wang Jiahao.
The lecture will feature an introduction by Martien de Vletter on CCA’s research mandate through its collections and exhibitions; a presentation by Shirley Surya on the curatorial framework and methodology of How Modern as an exhibition and publication; and reflections by Li Hua on selected case studies through the lens of macro and micro narratives, and perspectives of the past and present.
How Modern: Biographies of Architecture in China, 1949–1979 was organized by the CCA in collaboration with M+.
This lecture is organized by etc. Library & Archive House at the Power Station of Art (PSA), Shanghai.
