Please join us for a conversation around Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s latest publication Border Tuner | Sintonizador Fronterizo, published by Inventory Press, preceded by a screening of a documentary with the same title.
The publication documents Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s participatory art installation composed of powerful search-lights forming bridges of light across the US-Mexico border. At a time of intense anti-immigrant rhetoric, militarized surveillance, and nationalist violence, the artwork created in 2019 connected the sister cities of El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The book’s essays critically examine the legacy of this project and presents its activation by tens of thousands of people who gathered to honour the interdependence of life in the borderlands.
