Temps d’Archi #11 – Utopies: What It Takes to Make a Home, When We Live Alone, and Where We Grow Older

Film screening, in French, Plaza Arthouse, 12, Rue de Nimy, 7000, Mons, 22 May 2025, 8pm to 9:30pm

As part of Temps d’Archi #11 – Utopies, the ICA is collaborating with the CCA, the Plaza Arthouse, and the Ordre des Architectes du Hainaut to present a series of documentaries in which architecture becomes the terrain of concrete utopias in the face of today’s social, economic, and urban challenges.

The session will begin with a dialogue between Giovanna Borasi and Audrey Contesse to contextualize the three documentaries, conceived by Giovanna Borasi, directed by Daniel Schwartz and produced by the CCA:

What It Takes to Make a Home, 2019, 29min

When We Live Alone, 2020, 20min

Where We Grow Older, 2023, 30min

This series examines how changing societies, new economic pressures, and increasing population density affect housing in diverse communities. Based on architectural projects in cities with different socio-political contexts, each film examines the global reach and local particularities of a given issue. The first film examines how architects are tackling the pressing problem of homelessness in Los Angeles and Vienna. The next two films address other challenges facing urban societies as a result of demographic changes and transformed lifestyles that affect the spatial configuration of our environments: the growing number of single-person families and the increasing aging of our populations.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Register here.
