Do you really need your own kitchen? Where else could you prepare meals or store your food? How indispensable are your water pipes? Let’s explore together how we can have a full life within a home that is less full. In this workshop, participants will remove parts of their home and replace them with new spatial solutions, by thinking about how to negotiate and share functions with spaces that can already be found around them.

Part 1:

• An introduction to the functions and rooms included in a traditional home. How are they geographically, socially, and historically dependent on each other?
• A close look at the furniture in each room, the activities that take place in it, the times of the day that it is being used, and the people that use it the most.
• A presentation of different public spaces that can have the same functions of each room of the house. A discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of these spaces.

Part 2:

• A model-making activity in which everyone chooses a room of the house to be replaced with a shared space. With craft materials each group will create a model of that new public space.
• A sharing session in which each team presents their model of the space ousted from their home, re-imagined.

Join us to imagine homes that function differently and whose inhabitants become closer to their communities as they share, exchange, and negotiate with each other.

Get It Out of Your House is a two-hour workshop given year round in English and French. We can accommodate up to 40 students per visit. To make a reservation or for more information, please contact us at public@cca.qc.ca or call +1 514 939 7002.
