Is there an expert in the room—aged 13-16?

What do you need your own room for? It was supposed to be a private space, away from family and society, for figuring out who you are. But the internet and social media made this idea seem old fashioned years before the pandemic. It’s time to think about individual space in a new way and about how we live together.

So we’re looking for experts ages 13 to 16 to form a group of researchers to help us figure some things out.

To apply, take a photo of your social life at home (for example, the place you hang out with your family or where you are on social media the most), and write one sentence explaining your choice. Send it by Monday, 11 May, to public@cca.qc.ca with your name, age, and location. We’re looking for a time commitment of a few hours per week until August. We will work together in English, and you will need an Instagram account (it can be a private account.)

FAQ

Who are we? And why share private information with us?

We’re an international research centre for architecture based in Montréal, founded in 1979. We produce research through exhibitions and public programs and books. We have never and will not share private information about anyone.

Why are we doing this?

We are interested in architecture from new perspectives and we think teens have valuable insight.

What happens after I submit a photo and caption?

We will pick up to fifteen teens to join the research project, and you’ll hear from us in a few weeks.

How will this work?

We will set up a private Instagram group and everything will happen there. We’ll ask you some questions to start a conversation. Then we will help you to figure out what kinds of questions you want to ask and who you want to ask them to. We’ll share your questions and collect the answers. Then we’ll look at the answers together.

How much time will this take?

About an hour per week. We want to be finished by August.
