Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

- Contemporary binding consists of green cloth-covered boards and spine, with gold gilt inscriptions and gold gilding on the paper edges. Endleaves are of black paper. The book contains a title page, introduction, table of contents, and 100 stereographs, which are individually mounted on light whitish brown cardboard and accompanied by text. Each stereograph is framed by a red ink border. The introduction, table of contents and stereographs SV1981:0002:001 - SV1981:0002:099 are unbound from the book, but the title page and stereograph SV1981:0002:100 remain bound.

imprinted - in typescript and gold gilt, on the cover, recto, u.c. to l.c.: with title; verso, u.c. to l.c.: with title imprinted - in typescript and gold gilt, on the spine, u.c. to l.c: with title and decorative patterns numbered - by an unknown hand, in pen and blue ink, on the front flypaper, verso, u.l.: "0065" imprinted and dated - in typescript and black ink, on the title page, u.c. to c.: with title and / "PHOTOGRAPHED BY MAJOR GILL/ AND / DESCRIBED BY JAMES FERGUSSON, F.R.S. M.R.A.S.; l.c.: "LONDON: / CUNDALL, DOWNES, & COMPANY, 168, NEW BOND STREET. / 1864." inscribed and dated - by an unknown hand, in pen and black ink, on the title page, u.r.: "wj wilson / 1933" imprinted - in typescript and black ink, on the title page, verso, l.c.: "LONDON: PRINTED BY R. CLAY, SON, AND TAYLOR, 1 BREAD STREET HILL." labelled and imprinted - in typescript and black ink, on a light yellowish brown diamond shaped paper label attached to the l.l. of the back pastedown, u.c to l.c.: "BOUND BY / BURN / 37 & 38 / KIRBY ST." [with in a circle; decorative boarder]
