Level of archival description:
Subseries
Extent and medium:
  • 192 digital files (approximately 3.2 GB)
Scope and content:
Sub-series 2, Design files, 1999—2004, contains digital plans and 3D models of the Muscle project. It includes CAD formats, including STL, Maya, 3DM/Rhino, AutoCAD, OBJ, and 3D Studio. There are also a number of screenshots taken from CAD files, which are saved as JPEGs, TIFs, PDFs, and AVIs. These document wireframe drawings 3D models of the Muscle, as well as 3D models of the A2 Cockpit and Soundbarrier.
Reference number:

AP167.S1.SS2

Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

This sub-series contains a number of born-digital files in CAD and 3D modeling formats. Due to the complex and often proprietary nature of CAD formats, proper rendering and use of these files may require highly specific software. CCA’s dedicated Study Room CAD workstation is loaded with a wide but incomplete range of such software. For further information about services and software available for interacting with obsolete or niche file formats, please contact Collection Reference (reference@cca.qc.ca) and ask to speak with the Digital Archivist. There are a number of items ending in the .zbd file extension in subdirectory AP167.S1.SS2.005. These are sliced build files for the ZPrinter 3D printer used by ONL. It is unclear whether or not they can be read, particularly without the related hardware; however, it is possible that they are related to or redundant of the STL files in that subdirectory.

Arrangement:
Material in this sub-series is arranged roughly by date.
Conditions governing access:
  • Digital material can only be accessed on-site. Please contact Reference at ref@cca.qc.ca for more information. Access by appointment only.
