Competition and design

Date:

1996 - 2014

Level of archival description:
Series
Extent and medium:
  • approximately 9000 digital files (5.5 GB)
Scope and content:
Series 1: Competition and design, 1996 – 2014, consists of approximately 9000 born-digital files that document the competition and design phases of the Hypo Alpe-Adria Center. The majority of the records date from 1996 to 2001.

This series largely contains materials relating to design, including files showing early conceptualization of the project, the competition entry, presentation boards, and various iterations of the design through the final design documentation. It is documented primarily through more than 3300 CAD drawings, including floorplans, sections, and elevations, whose formats include PowerCAD, PowerDraw, Microstation, and AutoCAD. There are also more than 650 image files, including renderings, sketches, and photographs of the physical model and construction site. This series also includes a limited amount of additional textual documentation.
Reference number:

AP192.S1

Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

This series contained a large number of files with unknown file types that were likely created on a Mac computer. Files with no extension are most likely PowerCAD files. Files with the extension .PD6 are PowerDraw files. Both file types were not able to be opened at the time of processing. Some of the Adobe Illustrator files do not appear to have content. Files with the .PRJ file extension have an unknown file type. It is unclear how to access the content of these files.

Arrangement:
Materials in this series were grouped topically as much as possible, based on the received order and original directory structure, and then arranged in rough chronological order.
Conditions governing access:
  • Digital material can only be accessed on-site. Please contact Reference at ref@cca.qc.ca for more information. Access by appointment only.
General note:
  • The dates in this series-level description typically do not include the AppleDouble resource forks, which reflect the time of file transfer to CCA. Corrupted timestamps were also changed to match the related timestamps in that directory. For some directories, particularly those containing Quark XPress or certain image formats, the command line tool addext was used to append file extensions to files without them. Some Quark XPress files were manually normalized to Quark XPress v.9 or PDF as appropriate.
