Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

- Album PH1988:0010:001-008 comprises a cover page enclosing 8 albumen prints from paper negatives mounted on 8 unbound white pages. An inscribed sheet, a title page and a page containing the LIST OF VIEWS WITH DESCRIPTIONS follow the cover page. The outer cover is of off-white cardboard with brown cloth binding. Red and blue imprinted lettering on the cover is bordered by blue and black lines with ornate corners, and designs above and below. The pages of the album have been detached. A label bearing a single-digit number that corresponds to the LIST OF VIEWS at the beginning of the album is affixed on the mount at the top right corner of photographs PH1988:0010:001 - PH1988:0010:008.

Inscription:

imprinted - on the cover, in typescript, in red and blue ink, u.c.: "Photographs of Trichinopoly." and in black ink, l.c.: "CAPTAIN L. TRIPE. GOVERNMENT PHOTOGRAPHER." inscribed and numbered - by an unknown hand, on a sheet following the outer cover, in graphite, u.l.: "WB1/- / 8/6" imprinted - on the title page, in black ink, u.c. to l.c.: "PHOTOGRAPHIC VIEWS / OF / TRICHINOPOLY. BY CAPTAIN L. TRIPE, GOVERNMENT PHOTOGRAPHER. / MADRAS PRESIDENCY. / 1858." stamped - by an unknown hand, blind embossed, on the secondary support,l.c.: "Photographer to Government" [stamp is a sun symbol with the inscription below forming an oval shape enclosing the letters "LT"]
