Physical characteristics and technical requirements:

- Contemporary binding consists of blue cloth-covered boards and spine. There are gold gilt inscriptions and accents on the cover and spine. Endleaves are of blue paper. Pages are of light brownish white paper and light brownish white construction paper. The book comprises 70 photographs, covered with tracing paper, which accompany descriptions of 70 castles and mansions in Ayrshire. Two additional photographs are mounted in the book, but they do not appear to be part of the original publication.
