John Lee Archer (1791-1852) was born in Ireland to John and Charlotte Lee Archer. He was raised in London where he became an architect and engineer. In 1827 he traveled to Van Dieman's Land, now Tasmania. He served the colony as civil engineer and colonial architect for eleven years. His numerous works still stand throughout the island.
