'Theatre structures have taken a remarkable variety of forms; this volume offers a compact survey from the Renaissance to the present. Numerous illustrations, integrated with the text and drawn whenever possible from sources contemporary with the structures, show the forms preferred by succeeding generations of architects, clients, and patrons. The text explains the principal elements of the architectural concept, defining and comparing the growing and discussed in detail, as are the architectural theories bearing on public spaces designed for entertainment.
