Summary:

This volume is a full bibliography of works that were written by the French about, first, the British colonies of America, and then the organized new country, the United States of America, from 1770 to 1800. In the first part of the volume is the bibliography. The bibliography is divided by the year of publication, within which the divisions are numbered 1 to 3: 1 is for books on geography, voyages, and descriptions; 2 is for books on history, politics, diplomatic and political documents, essays, pamphlets and political journals; and 3 is for books on literature, philosophy, and morality and religion itself. Within each paragraph, books are listed alphabetically by author, where known, or by title, if the author is anonymous or unknown. The second part of this volume is a critical study by the author of the most important and prominent books that are in the bibliography, including a study of where and how they were published as well as the subject matter of the books. The 'Avant-Propos" is an excellent introduction to the contents of the book and will help readers understand the organization and content of the volume further.
