This book addresses the beginnings of suburbanization in the United States. Copeland imagines a sixty acre estate, and aims his descriptions for the upper-middle class, on the grounds that the rich can afford gardeners and the working class can't afford the estate. In fact, his plans look pretty grand from the perspective of today, replete with greenhouses, conservatories, graperies, and asparagus patches, and the country gentleman to be who took all of Copeland's advice would have his hands full.
