Summary:

"This is a new edition of a work originally published in 1642. Passari's Life of Salvator Rosa had been added in the 'seconda impressione', Rome, 1649. Here Baglione recounts the lives of more than two hundred artists working in Rome between 1572 and 1642. They are presented chronologically; but are accompanied by an alphabetic index of artists (by fore-name). A small number of foreign artists working in Rome (e.g. Rubens, Bril, Goltzius), and a Life of Baglione, have also been included. The text includes critical comment, and notes on patronage"--Royal Academy of Arts website, viewed May 2, 2023.
