Summary:

Trattato dell'arte della pittura, scoltura et architettura (1584), or "Treatise on the Art of Painting," is divided into seven books. The topics of these books deal with Proportion, motion, color, light, perspective, practice, history, and iconography relating to classical and Christian subjects. Lomazzo offered a systemic codification of aesthetics that was central to the development of Italian mannerist theories of art.
