Summary:

In this work, Mason studies changing and varied tastes in garden design from classical Grecian times to contemporary English. The geographical expanse ranges from China, through Persia, to Holland and other areas of Europe. His philosophical essay uses such diverse sources as Curtius Rufus, Theocritus, "Lord Bacon," Sir William Temple, and Voltaire. See Desmond, page 473.
