Van Wie painted scenes of San Francisco from the late 1890s to about 1907. There are views of downtown, especially of the newspaper buildings, city hall, mint, and many views of the Presidio of San Francisco, including Letterman General Hospital, during the Spanish American War, and the Fleet in 1907.
