"Perquimans County and the Town of Hertford in cooperation with the North Carolina Division of Archives and History applied for and received in 1978 a Survey and Planning Grant to produce a comprehensive inventory of the architectural and historical resources within the county ... Additional funding in the form of a 1979 Survey and Planning Grant was awarded to the county for a one-month extension of the project into a publication phase. The historic architecture of Perquimans County, North Carolina is an outgrowth of this publication grant utilizing and expanding on the information gathered during the countywide inventory"--Page v.
