Summary:

"Bruno Zevi is regarded as the foremost European interpreter of the American tradition of Richardson, Sullivan and Wright. His book Architecture as Space has educated a generation of architects. Well-known as the editor of L'Architettura and Metron he also has a weekly column in L'Espresso. In this study, Andrea Oppenheimer Dean (senior editor of the AIA Journal) clarifies Zevi's principal contributions to the criticism of modern architecture. Her presentation is not an evaluation of his thinking, but an examination of how it evolved. Zevi emphasizes the social responsibility of architects and critics to work together toward new ideas and experiments, to learn from such innovators as Michelangelo, Borromini, William Morris, Frank Lloyd Wright, Einstein and Schönberg. Included are biographical notes, a selected bibliography and appendices which collect Zevi's most influencial speeches, articles and essays, some published for the first time in English."--Back cover.
