"This book originates in another book, 'Tøyengata -et nyrikt stykke Norge', which was published in Norway in 2010 and describes how Tøyen Street in Oslo has been transformed by 30 years of gentrification. 'Tøyengata' has since been translated, revised and expanded to become the present book, 'Everyday life in the gentrifying city'. Whereas the first book approached the Norwegian public as well as academia, this second book is largely oriented towards an international community of scholars and students engaged in urban issues. The commitment of the two books is, however, the same."--Preface.
