This work corresponds to the section on carpentry of the 2nd v. (Deuxième livraison, première partie) of 'Recueil de planches sur les sciences, les arts liberaux, et les arts méchaniques, avec leur explication' (Paris : Briasson [and others], 1763). The Recueil was issued over the course of eleven years as an accompanying series of illustrations to Diderot and d'Alembert's Encyclopédie, which began to appear in 1751.
Plates drawn by Lucotte or Goussier and engraved by Prévost or Defehrt.
Plates numbered 1-51, some of these on double-size leaves folded at centre.
