Le musée de Préhistoire, réalisé par Roland Simounet en 1981, inscrit à l'Inventaire des Monuments historiques depuis 2002 et labellisé Patrimoine du XXe siècle, occupe encore aujourd'hui une place particulière dans l'imaginaire de nombreux architectes. Tapi dans la forêt de Fontainebleau, le musée pourrait être un rocher moussu que l'on découvre par hasard. Sur les bétons bruts, le temps a discrètement fait son œuvre, et le fonctionnement du musée n'a pas beaucoup évolué depuis son ouverture.
