Er präsentiert die schönsten Aufnahmen aus den Bildbeständen des Geobotanischen Instituts Rübel und aus dem Nachlass von Carl Schröter im Bildarchiv der ETH-Bibliothek in Zürich. Das von Eduard Rübel (1876?1960) 1918 in Zürich gegründete und später der ETH gestiftete Institut erforschte pionierhaft die botanische Artenvielfalt. Rübels Lehrer, der Botaniker und ETH-Professor Carl Schröter (1855?1939), war ein Pionier des Arten- und Landschaftsschutzes.0Rübel und Schröter setzten die Fotografie zur wissenschaftlichen Dokumentation wie auch zur Verbreitung ihrer Forschung und zur Popularisierung des Umweltschutzes ein. Die Bilder zeugen von einer untergegangenen Welt und haben dennoch einen überaus starken Aktualitätsbezug. Sie entführen in eine entrückt wirkende und zugleich höchst reale, da naturwissenschaftlich exakt dokumentierte Landschaft, begleitet von einem ausführlicher Einführungsessay.
