Later ed. of a work originally issued in parts from 1798-1800 by Voss et compagnie. In a preface to the 1st pt. of the 1st ed., the publishers acknowledge the generosity of Lord Findlater with respect to the production of the work and mention him as having "invented" some of the designs. Cf. British Architectural Library. Early printed books, cited below, and Tait, A.A. "Lord Findlater, architect" in The Burlington magazine, v. 128 (Oct. 1986), p. 738. The work was also published in German under the title: "Zeichnungen aus der schönen Baukunst". A preliminary text ("Vorerinnerung") to the 2nd German ed. presents the work as owing its origin to Lord Findlater's collection of architectural drawings, from which a selection has been made by the owner.
Plates: frontispiece, unnumbered plate signed as engraved by "Schröter", 103 engraved plates numbered 1-113, 8 of which are printed on double pages.
