Summary:

How does the digital city affect the quality, attractiveness and vitality of territories? How are urban connected objects apprehended - Do they challenge our representations of the city and our perceptions of urban landscapes? In the context of the promotion of the digital city, Émeline Bailly and Dorothée Marchand question the implications of its development on urban quality. Based on interdisciplinary empirical research, they explore the way in which smartphones and urban digital objects mediate the relationship to places, to others and to oneself. Digital transforms the relationship with the city and reveals a distancing of territories. Forms of reterritorialization are emerging. The place appears as a strong unit of meaning. The presence of nature, the quality of atmospheres and landscapes create more sensitive urban experiences. Wouldn't the challenge then be to better consider these dimensions in the creation of places? Should we not imagine and revive forms of urbanity reconciling an urban and digital transition with the quality of life? A singular reflection to reinvent the city and its relationship to digital
