Summary:

In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Gerrit van Arkel left his mark on the face of the city of Amsterdam with a large number of important projects. He designed many residential and commercial buildings in the Center and beyond. Appreciation for his Art Nouveau style declined after the Second World War. A renewed interest and rediscovered archive material, however, formed the basis for a new biography with a complete list of oeuvres.
