"De vzw Africalia, een Belgisch cultureel samenwerkingsproject, werd in 2000 opgericht op initiatief van Staatssecretaris voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking Eddy Boutmans. Het colloquium in Bamako werd bijgewoond door tachtig Afrikaanse deskundigen uit de culturele sector: denkers, kunstenaars,... Africalia bood hen een forum waar ze zich vrij konden uiten. Onze Afrikaanse partners moeten immers de vrijheid hebben om zelf hun toekomst te bepalen. Daarom worden initiatieven met het oog op het bepalen van de toekomst, die zich inschrijven in de armoedebestrijding en de duurzame ontwikkeling, aangemoedigd. De doelstelling bestond erin de vragen van de Afrikaanse betrokkenen te bundelen tot een document om zo de Afrikaanse aanwezigheid op de podia wereldwijd aan te moedigen en via culturele initiatieven ook de ontwikkeling te bevorderen."--Dust jacket.
